This has not been in a year but over several years.
Sometimes you just get a vehicle that is problematic for whatever reasons.
This engine has been that so I am seriously considering just ripping it out and replacing it.
If I can get a lower mileage one, then it will be almost like getting a new ST1100! ;)
 
Do you think the engine in Blue Belle is salvageable? I might be able to assist in getting her back to you if needed. I'm attending the Marietta RTE next weekend. Could try the following weekend.

Sounds like a good plan, reminds me of a transmission l never got fixed, thing would drive in neutral, long story but ended up getting a transmission from the auto wrecker.

What's left of her is already in the Holler - got her the first week in August. ;)
The engine may be okay but I won't know until I can stand her up.
The wreck was bad enough to double back one of the handlebars, almost rip off the center stand, bend the shifter flush with the engine, etc.
If I'm going to swap engines, I want to go with one less than 50,000 miles if I can find it.

I've not dug deep into it as my prime riding season is coming up and I still have 2 runners.
I've got the Honda Service manual and it's procedures but thanks for the link.
It could be a wiring issue but given the past repairs I've already done to the bike I would really be surprised. ;)
 
Well Uncle Phil as long as you don't wander too far from home you can probably ignore it for a little bit. Maybe a stuck regulator? Does increased rpm make a difference?

No, increased RPM does not make a difference.
What makes me scratch my head is it failed, then I fussed with it and it started working fine, then I put the bodywork back on and it failed again. :think1:
As I said before, usually when an alternator goes south, it stays south ... ;)

My hunch that is probably what it is since it is 'sporadic'.
But to get to that you've got to pull the alternator which means pulling the swingarm.
Or you just replace the engine and call it good ... ;)

I've got a new Guzzi and it hasn't displayed any of those features. Yet. ;) Guzzi is slowly getting past that reputation, if all the old riders will let it. The old corporate tag line comes to mind. Moto Guzzi, making mechanics out of riders since 1921.

After looking at the pictures of the crashed bike, I wouldn't put any of those parts on another bike. Maybe if they were easily removed and another part could be put in it's place.

That was sort of an inside joke between Uncle Phil and I. I had a V100 Mandello and absolutely loved it. Unfortunately it went in the shop for a warranty issue and that’s the end of that story.

I can't tell you how many times over the years that has happened on my ST1100s - works fine until I install the bodywork ... ;)
 
Yesterday evening managed to install my Rox high rizer with out taking any Tupperware off, needed to run the throttle cables and choke cable behind the triple clamp . So removed the upper triple clamp. First time to do anything with out removing TupperwareIMG_7277.jpg
