The other route highway 4 over Ebbetts pass is absolutely spectacular as well.
4 was my original route, but I saw that it was closed until May 27. Same with 120.

Google says this part of 4 is closed until the 27th... is that correct? I don't know what pass that is, so Google was no help.

Also, it looks like that section is only 1 lane wide, or is it just really narrow?

There is nothing noted according to CalTrans, and they own those roads. https://quickmap.dot.ca.gov/ and https://dot.ca.gov/caltrans-near-me/district-10/district-10-news/traffic-advisory-alpine-county-5-11-22?fbclid=IwAR2qJH5kHviMLhoCpRnGkOxsfRWrMicmRXLT4HM7amLvNRX0m5txb_h0yY4'

The BARF guys say it's open (and be careful at the hairpin): https://bayarearidersforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=554676

I'm assuming that photo is the back side of the pass, and it's not one lane wide, they just don't center- stripe it. But it's not wide, so take care around the corners. Now that I think of it, the last time I went through there was via bicycle doing The Tour of the California Alps, aka The Deathride years ago. Talk about knackered when done..

As some of you may know, I purchased Dan's (bdalameda) bike, a 1997 ST1100 ABSII. I'm starting a fly-n-ride from Dallas next Saturday May 21st. I'm taking the following week off work, so I'm combining this purchase with a CO/UT trip I was planning to make anyway. My tentative route is below. I picked this route to get Hwy 50 in Nevada, Hwys 12, 128 and Moki Dugway in Utah and Hwys 141 and 550 in CO. I've previously ridden all of these except Hwy 50 in NV. There are some roads in AZ that I want to ride, but trying to stay in the cooler part of the country as long as I can. I have plenty of time, so would appreciate any advice on other routes. Also, if anyone wants to meet up for lunch/dinner, that would be great, let me know! I'm going to try and update this thread as I go. My spot link is in my avatar info. Thanks for watching! ;)
Great route! You will love Utah and the route you planned. I would just add in Boulder UT where Rt 12 makes a turn go straight on Burr trail road. It's a in and back out about 35 miles round trip with a small slot canyon right at the road (11 mile mark). Just look at some pics on google Maps . Also Colorado National Monument is a quick detour that has lost of twisties and elevation.1652890353313.png

Ebbetts pass opened on May 12. the section on the road in the pic is one-way only IIRC. It is just a short section.

Thanks for that! I've added Rimrock Dr. to my day 5 route out of Fruita, CO. I'll see about Burr Trail if time allows. I've ridden UT12 before, but didn't do Burr Trail due to time.

If you do the Burr Trail, let me know. Level of Lake Powell is really low so I am not sure the Hall's Ferry crossing is running. If the ferry is closed it is a long way round from Moki Dugway to the Burr Trail.

I am planning to do both on the way to WeSTOC.

I'd probably just do the Burr Trail out and back.

Burr trail is free, and in my opinion is better than CNM (pay)

Great ride you have scheduled... love 550 and 141... and you're going by the Earthship homes outside of Taos? AWESOME!!!! Mixon and I rode by there back in 2006 on the way up to WeSTOC in Denver.

Me, Napoleon, and my ST on the way... good times!

Heads up... this weekend is a heavy snow for the mountains, passes, which means I-70 anything is going to be bad or just closed up there for anything w/o chains or all season tires. I'm looking at inches here, up to 12".

Bike purchased, and I’m now 180 miles closer to home in Jackson, CA. Loneliest highway in America tomorrow, expecting to get to Ely, NV. I really like the bike, and Dan was a real pleasure the deal with. Thanks Dan!

Good luck on the ride back, just keep a close eye on the weather. Pretty nasty in CO, right now!
