Martin - Well, it was interesting but no big deal. I got there late in the afternoon from London and it was raining, so I didn't have to deal with much traffic which really simplifies going up the switchbacks. I shot some video but I haven't checked it yet - it may not be too good because of the rain. I ran it from West to East, headed up Smithy Road which was pretty good in itself. IIRC, there 3 tight, steep switchbacks about 1/2 - 2/3s of the way up that took some care but the rest of it was no tougher than Stelvio - just a little 'shorter'. :D

Exactly my POV on that track Phil, but so many classify it as "technically challenging"... ;-)
Dunno, if your halfway familiar with the controls of your motorcycle and using your eyes, its "just another road"...
But I do like the mood of nature and landscape there, partial wilderness, uninhabited, only sparsely populated... balm for the soul...

Well, maybe next year...

Martin - I can see where if there was a car coming down that didn't give way to you coming up or stopped in one of the hairpins, it could get really 'interesting'. Most of the Brits at BritSToc were of that same opinion on the matter. It was lovely since there was nobody else there, so I really enjoyed the views.

With a "bloody tourist" yes, but all local drivers are really forthcoming and in compliance with procedure...
I just look ahead/up and "time" my entering with the oncoming traffic to minimise encounters...

And how did your Chinese GPS work up there? Are those iGo mapsets accurate? (I assume their also made/provided by HERE?)

Martin - The Chinavasion unit worked superbly in and out of London and all through the trip. No problems at all 'finding' Smithy Road, HardKnott, Wrynose, etc. Even did great on the rideout on Saturday through some very 'off the grid' single tracks. As usual, I have arguments with it as to which road I want to take as it was set to 'fastest', but the auto recalculate finally sorted it to suit me. :D I really like the 5" model, I just hope that Mark and his group can get the 800X480 resolution working for the MC mod to Primo 2.4. My older Gen1s work great, but my Gen2 needs the higher resolution skins.

Good to hear you enjoyed the ride, despite the rain. I agree with your comment that it (HardKnott, Wrynose) is not that taxing, as long as there is no inconsiderate traffic coming the other way at certain points. there was one turn where I was glad to be able to use the opposite side of the road coming in.

For me the satnav worked fine as well.

Sorry if this ends up as a double post. I thought it was submitted last night.
re: RAGE GPS
What controls the limit on folders listed under Settings - NaviPath?

I already have listed in there: iGO8 / Primo / Regedit.exe. I made a copy of the Primo folder and applied the motorcycle 1.9 mods to that copy, onto the SD card. Shut down, restart . . . it's not listed.
Trying to rename the original to Primo24 and the motorcycle copy to Primo didn't fool the RAGE. It listed iGO8 / Primo24 / Regedit.exe and ignored the one called Primo.

For now I've done it the usual way of just overwriting 1.9 over the original Primo. I'll be giving that a run on the road today.

I'd still like to know what is stopping a folder list from displaying all top level folders though.

AFAIK, there is no 'limit' as to what the folders are called. I just recently 'renamed' mine PRIMOUSA instead of PRIMO so I can distinguish between PRIMOEUROPE and the States version. Were you hooking the GPS directly to the USB or using a card reader? If directly, it should show as two different 'drives' - one is the 'internal', the other is the micro sd. It's very easy to get them confused. If the unit still does not 'see' it, I'd pickup up a cheap SD card reader and see what it looks like without the GPS (probably need a SD 'sleeve' to put the micro card in).

Not a limit of what they are called Phil, though I do keep it to 8 characters or less and no spaces, just to be safe. I meant a limit of how many folder/files it will list. I am limited to 3 choices.
I just deleted the folder "Regedit" from the microSD, which was the last choice in the list of 3. Now the folder I was attempting to add is showing in the list. And the order of the folders is not alphabetical after all. Interesting (in an Arte Johnson sort of way)

Previously listed: back to up level | iGO8 | Primo | Regedit | OK / Cancel
Now listed: back to up level | Primo | iGO8 | PrimoMod | OK / Cancel (PrimoMod is my folder for the motorcycle v1.9 modification of Primo)

PrimoMod put me through the initial configuration and licence phases so I know that's the new installation, but I don't see anything on the screens that looks any different from plain Jane Primo.
More work . . .

I'll have to check that out. Best I can recall, I've never had more than 3 folders on the microsd. I'll see what mine do.

***EDIT***
Just for grins, I add three additional empty folders. There were already three on the device - BACKUP, IGO8 and PRIMOUSA. The only ones that showed up were IGO8 and PRIMOUSA (BACKUP was empty). However, when I copied the PRIMO.exe into the empty folders, all of them showed up. There is a very slim 'drag bar' to the right of the list that lets you see the rest of the folders. So for a folder to 'show', it evidently must have a .exe file at the root level.

I've bought a Rage GPS to replace what must be a 12 year olg Garmin Zumo 500 which although not used often did the job for running routes I create.
I've loaded Primo and the MC mod with the help from you guys on here.
Thanks for the help.
Now to see if it works on the bike and to load my routes in.
I have many that I need to convert from GPX to the KML the Rage wants.
I wonder if my Basecamp exports to kml.... Must go check., Yes it does!

Basecamp appears to export kml. I've just loaded a long route to Austria and back but noticed it has alot, really alot of flags on the route.
I used an unflag software for garmin which removed them in gpx format.
I will have to play some more over winter and see how I can get some of my plotted routes cleanly into Primo.
Thanks for your advice and work on this subject.

Try the GPSBabel application for file conversions. It's a free download.

Used the Rage in anger for the first time this week to find a suspension specialist who was sorting out my ST13 suspension for me.
Anyway it worked pretty well, screen washout in the sun is a pain but I'll 3D print a bigger shield for those occasions and see if that works, and I also find the text a little on the small side for my ageing eyes without glasses (I don't need them to see far distance, just reading) Is there a way of enlarging some of the information on the screen, I'm running the MC mod from the Dutch forum?

Meh, I've been playing with the rage this afternoon and have dumped a kml route in the folder but hen I go to load the route which is not that big, it states out of memory and locks up?
I'm using Primo with the Dutch mod on it.
I'll try another rally short route but if those in the know have seen this please advise a solution if known?
TIA

EDIT:
Loaded another longer route and it comes up fine so must be an issue with the first route I converted.
Now looking at importing my POI list into the RAGE if possible?

Okay another question.
How can zoom in/out on the map area and locate places with the curser?

I've had a few of these GPS units, and one in particular had this behaviour. I found that appending the following to primo2\sys.txt fixed it:

[debug]
max_memory=35000000
reserve_memory=1700000
cache=600000

I don't know anything about the Dutch mod, but on the standard interface all you do is tap on the screen from the default map view. That allows you to zoom/pan, switch between 2d/3d modes, select a place with a cursor, etc. Or from the "Destination" menu, one can direct to a place on the map.
