NT700V to the US

The latest Rider magazine (December 2009) says Honda is bringing the NT700V (Deauville) to the US for 2010. Seems to get good press in Europe. We'll get to play with another one of their bikes now. :)

I was at a local dealer yesterday and asked about the NT700V. Said he had one (non abs) on order to see how people respond to it. He also said honda canada hasnt officially anounced the price, but to look at a minimum of $12500CDN! for that model.

Re: Has everone seen this?

Yeah it.s about time Honda brought this mid size tourer to the states, but the $11,000 is a little steep. Just have to see how it sells with the economy and all like it is ?

Re: Has everone seen this?

I don't know why everyone is so hyped up over the NT700. It's a 680cc, 562lb wet weight m/c. It'll feel underpowered but jump on it if you must.

The Suzuki DL1000 is 525lbs wet for comparison: 91.3 HP and 65.2 lb/ft torque. (Motorcyclist dyno numbers).

The Deauville (2006 model, info pulled from Bikez, European version of the NT700) puts out around 65 HP and 49 lb/ft torque.

Numbers might be a bit different for the U.S. model; however, I doubt it will be even close to the DL1k's power. If it was my choice, I'd get the DL1k and slap some hard cases on it. There'd be enough left over to ride across the country for a slice of pie.
well, I think the Veradero is a much better comparison, and, much more refined than a DL1000.

Re: Has everone seen this?

It would surprise me quite a bit if the NT700 really takes off in it's current configuration and for the price point it will be selling for.
Ditto. I think that a much deadlier comparison to the Deauville is the Wee Strom with ABS. $3,000 less with a better power to weight ratio and a whole lotta aftermarket. Drop $1k on hard bags for the Wee and you've got bikes that are nearly identical from a functionality standpoint, and with the Wee your bike is lighter and your wallet heavier.

Yes, the Deauville is a pretty good looking bike, but I doubt if very many folks looking for a practical commuter are going to be willing to drop $2k more for the looks and shaft drive. I could be wrong though. $1k? Yeah, if all I was planning on strictly street riding, I'd probably take the Deau over the Wee if the price spread was only 1k, but that's because not farting with the chain may be worth it for me.

All of you who are balking about pricing have to remember the dollar isn't worth as much these days and things are about to get a lot worse. Another thing, when you see the price of gold going up it's not that the gold is worth more, it just means it takes more dollars to buy an ounce. If predictions of gold prices doubling again are correct that will mean your dollar dropped another 50% on top of the 15% you lost since last year. Now, save up for those carbon credits, increased taxes for "free" health care and continued bail outs and stimulus plans, the end of the Bush tax cuts...you starting to get the big picture yet?

I can't wait to see just how the US market will ACTUALLY respond once you ACTUALLY have the bike.....

I think that cost of ownership will seriously influence buyers of the bike. Non agressive riding will provide super fuel economy, at the end of the day please remember that it is NOT an ST and in reality is for those who don't want a BIG bike.
Residuals will be better than other bikes mentioned, reliability, cost of ownership etc etc.

Heavy? Well, only a bit more than some other middle weights.....

Don't judge the book by its cover, wait for it, ride it for a reasonable distance, then comment form a position of understanding what it is all about.

Let's face it, the ST in both forms is underpowered for its market sector, but then, it has been around in 1100 form for 20 years and correct me if I am wrong, it still beats the pants off most other 'touring' bikes...... or do we just ride them because we are old fashioned?

The Bros, NTV and its derivatives have been around for just about as long if, not longer and it still commands a similar loyal following around the world..... I mean how long since Honda stopped making the CX500/650 and there are still plenty of those about!

I think it will take quite some time to get used to the sound of the engine which isnt nice at all, to me anyways.

Having already thrown caution to prospective owners regarding my NTV650 Deauville experience I happened to spend some unschedulled time at the Honda dealers (getting rid of the crappy 021 that near killed me) and hawking around the 700s.

There are several updates to the 650 format, which included most of my criticisms; seat, screen, POWER, lighting, instrumentation, fuel guage, aerodynamics, and quality of build.

It's going for a ?7k figure; so I could buy a chain drive racing bike for the same but didn't chains go out with Grandfather clocks? 2k more and there's the CB1300, a couple less and a naked hooligan CBR1000 that I can certainly list a page of negatives on!

All in all, I'd be prepared to chew some humble pie. The bike is a good step away from the old Deauville and left me only wondering why the thin handlebars remain and why the quality of foot control material seems to have diminished (though likley a weight saving).

Also there were the fully-faired with bolt on full luggage CB600s; certainly price and volume competitors. I rode the naked version and found it far more lively than it's commuter format suggested. It was somewhat cheaper but the riding position would loose in an argument with the 700. It has a chain, too. How quaint. The gearing on the 600s is a nightmare and designed to 'drag' up to 50mph (....) whereas the 700 Deauville remains touring geared- much more sensible touring or commuting.

No, I have to accept the 700 is likely worth the premium. Check out fuel ecconomies in the literature, too but remember how the bikes will be ridden to achieve the figures. Lastly, I know of 2 700s on my commute- they're no slouch in traffic still and can out manouever the ST around flagging lines of cars. (although I still munch 'em up in the open :)

in summary, think hard and see where the extra costs lie. You'll quickly accept them, I'm sure.

NT700V. The ST's little brother.

I think the NT is very intriguing and looks like a smaller ST in every way. Honda touts it as a lighter version of the ST that is much friendlier for urban commuting than the heavier ST and that it also doubles as a tourer also. I do have to admit I do find the ST a bit cumbersome around town sometimes, however I wouldn't want any other bike on the open road. It's weight makes for a smoother ride and also the 680cc motor in the NT about half the size of the ST. Nonetheless it is nice to see Honda introduce more models. It 's always good to have more choices. If I didn't already own an ST would I consider the NT? Yes, I would, but in the end I would still probably purchase the ST anyway.
