As I understand, while definitely a problem with the FJ-09, it was resolved with the 2019 Tracer.
The drain bolt on the fj was pointing downward and the lowest part of the bike..hitting a speed bump hard could cause a crack. On the tracer they moved it forward but the oil pan is still low. Even on my prev ST1300 I've bumped the oil pan on speed bumps but they are much tougher on the honda.

After a couple of months on a 2019 Tracer GT I'm missing a full faring. I would also be ok with it being lowered, it's a stretch getting on and off. I have the lowering kit just need to install it. I will be changing the gearing at the next tire change, along with adding a TPMS. It definitely needs a better seat, just haven't found a used one yet. Not sure I'm sold on it yet but probably won't upgrade to a 2021.

To be fair, the first year 2002 ST1300 had a small protrusion immediately in front of the oil drain bolt to protect the bolt head and when the sump touched anything hard it broke off and cracked the oil sump. Honda fixed the design for 2003 which was the first USA model year so the one year problem was never heard of over here.

Good point... I had read about that, but what the heck are these people bumping their oil pans on, jeez. It has 5.3" ground clearance... FJR has 4.9", ST13 has 5.3". Are the exhausts banged up too under there? Are they using them as dual sports... if so, put on a bash plate.. but, some replaced their drain plugs with a low profile one that gains about 1/4". But yes, lower it and you'll have to be more careful. Lots have lowered FJR's an inch or more and I don't hear of issues except for those trying to climb curbs.

I'm just saying that besides looking to see what is going to touch when leaning into a turn, to look at things underneath. I've never heard of a bike before with this issue, and it may only be the FJ09, but it is worth looking at before lowering a bike.

The 2021 Tracer 9 GT looks enticing--seems a good bike with many nice features. :thumb:

I would say there's not enough to make the move if you already have a pre-2021 tracer ... if you have an FJ-09... maybe a greater benefit.
...
Anyone else sense Joe is trying to talk himself out of moving from his 2019 Tracer 900 to this 2021 9 GT?

Maybe we should start an 'office pool' on how long it will take Joe to break down and get one.

Nah, I've barely used my 2019.

I've scraped the underside of my ST going over a parking lot speed bump when fully loaded. I'm much more aware now of my speed going over them.

Some guy got a look at one at a dealership in the Netherlands. Unusual exhaust (3:27).

The Cheese

I've got a better look at the saddlebags. Oh my are they ugly. Like indefensibly ugly. Inexcusably ugly. Back of a Hayabusa ugly. What was Yama thinking? How many people approved that mess? At no time did anyone speak up? I noticed all of the press releases and other photos leave the bags off. Confirms Yamaha knows how ugly it really is. I hope the old ones fit the new bike.

Not bad enough for me to not buy the bike. But close. I'll take mine in red please.

This looks sooo bad.

That area the arrow points to is just open space. If I hadn't seen pictures that appear like the bike is actually moving with the bags on, I'd swear they were photoshoped on by a grade school kid. It just looks weird.

For some reason, it never shows in a picture of your model. It does with this new model. I just can't fall in love with it.

Yeah the bags are something. I don't care for the oem bags on mine either but they do blend in some.

Looks like they copied the Duck's Multistrada...with a slanted nose. Or maybe a Corbin?

Gee, hadn't paid attention to the Multi.... Liking the top hinged lids, more funtional/convenient. Reminds me of the orignal Beetle Bags (Givi fibreglass) they had on older VFR's and a couple of other Hondas back in the day.
