Brake Pads

Hi, Can anyone out there advise as to what type of brake pads are "best" for
2004 ST1300ABS. The two options I know about are Sintered type, or
Kevlar organic type. Is it just a matter of personnal choice, or is there a
tech specified type ?.

OEMs are sintered metal. I would not use anything else than OEM but that is just me, other sintered pads are available aftermarket.
 
I went with aftermarket, can't remember the name but they're a common replacement brand and pretty sure they're not Kevlar organic.

you cant go wrong with OEM pads... the other common used pads are EBC HH pads. ( some like only oem, some like ebc ) try for yourself to see.

One thing tho is that the OEM pads are thicker/diff part # for the rear of the 04, while EBC uses all the same size for all 3 brakes
 
I had Honda pads when I bought the bike used. Really happy with the braking power from them.
I thought I would experiment with the EBC pads. So far I have 7500 miles on them and the rears look like they are worn 50%.
Front pads look like they are wearing at a normal rate.
I just bled the brakes and the EBC rear pads bite even better.
I'm happy with them for the stopping power, but will have to check and change them more often.
Bought 3 sets off of partsangel for a total of $40. Going to try these off shore pads on my next go around. I like experimenting. http://myworld.ebay.ca/partsangel/

I have had good luck with these guys shipping out of Country.
 
One nugget I can add is I went with EBC at one point and didnt notice that much difference in stopping capabilities. What I did notice is they kicked up way more brake dust that the stock pads. Been using stock pads ever since.

IF that dealer is chargin $66 PER SET for OEM pads, I hope that includes installation... MSRP for the fronts is $44 PER SET. They are about $38 PER SET online.
You need 2 sets for the front, and 1 set for the rear. Comes to $117 for front + rear.

This has been done to death... use OEM or there may be problems and others void warranty. Use OEM on your Honda car too and you will never need rotors. Aftermarket Pads are too hard.

+1 ordered a set from my Honda dealer once and they supplied the EBC's.
I usually use the OEMs tho.

Mentioned in other threads but the EBC has a different part number for the fronts for '08 and newer to go with the new caliper/SMC drain design.
 
Does anyone know a supplier that makes thicker rear pads like Honda does.
7500 miles on my EBC pads and the fronts are like new 10% worn and the rear pads are close to 50% worn.
Might try Honda rear pads with the EBC fronts when the rears need changing this year.
I switched the left front pads over the the front right side pads as the inner pads were wearing a tad faster that the outer pads.
 
just fitted EBC hh sintered pads to my st1300 the stopping power is absolutely brilliant. Will just have to see how they wear.
 
How does one tell the difference between EBC and OEM pads? I got my ST1300 in September, so I don't know what is on them. I assumed the OEM pads since the dealer did a complete checkup on the bike (including the PCV recall work) when I got it. I can say that if the bike stopped any faster, I'd have to start wearing a HANS device and a seat belt.
 
Aftermarket EBC pads tend to make alot more brake dust (the stuff that can damage the finish on your rims) than the OEM pads. .02
 
See post #8 I'm not the only one who notices the brake dust. Of course, I do wipe or blow off my rear rims after every ride, which is why I probably notice it more.
