Well I am a little over due for a new rear tire. Wow, this is a first for me. I have never completely used a rear tire in one season. Though I typically only do 5K miles a year. This year I broke 10K earlier this week on the 1300 alone. Anyhow, I mounted this in June and now just shy of 6,000 miles it looks like I am due for replacement. It is really visible that I have a lot more wear on the left side of the tire than the right. I guess this explains what happened last week. It was raining out and I as I am making a left hand turn the back tire broke free mid corner. No biggie, it was slow speed and I just did a little drifting. I didn't really think too much of it because, hey it happens.

Now, what to get. I am debating between another BT023, PR2 or trying the BT020. :think1:

I do have my old PR2 that has a little life in it. I was considering putting it on today but I just looked at the forecast. 0% chance of rain until Friday. Then it is only a 10%. So I might keep running it until the replacement gets here.

I will say this much. I typically wear out the center of my tires. Though I have been riding more twisties lately.

I went back to the BT020 after the BT023 and it was like finding an old friend. (I've run them before) I headed up into the mountains last night and the bike was well planted and very confidence inspiring. If you haven't run the BT020's, they're worth a shot.

I thinking I am leaning that way. Are they dual compound? On the 1300 I have only ridden on PR2 and BT023. Nothing bad to report about them, just testing the waters at this point.

I was originally told they were but have found out they are not dual compound. I've run them on a couple of different bikes: SV650, SV1000S, and then the ST1300.....if memory serves, I think this is the 3rd or fourth set I've run.

I've gone through 5 BT020s on the rear and I've liked them, getting about 10k or so out of them. They've always felt confidence inspiring and I have full trust in them. I just put a BT023 on the rear because that's what they had in stock and I didn't feel like waiting for them to order a BT020 for me so I thought I'd give it a try. I don't have any significant miles (barely scuffed in) on the new rear but I do like how it feels so far. Of course almost any new tire feels good at first since it doesn't have a flat center yet.

The BT020 is not dual compound, afaik. It will be interesting to see what kind of mileage I get out of the 023. Like you, a lot of my riding is flat-land so the center wears out before the sides.

I've always got the BT020's. I get pretty good mileage out of them. The set that on my ST has over 13,000 on it, and can go a while yet. I check the pressures almost every time I ride a considerable distance. I keep them right at 42 pounds. I think I have had great luck with the 020's...

I didn't think the 020 was dual compound. Just thought I would ask as I hadn't looked at them that close before. I also watch my tire pressures. In fact every 5 min or so as I do my periodic scan of the gauges. I have the Kissan Tire Pressure Monitor on my 1300.

Plus the 020s are a little less spendy. Not much. About $20 I think when I was looking at 2 bros. I wish I knew I needed them. 2 Bros just shipped a set of tires for a local member's 1100 to my house as I am going to mount them for him. We could have combined our order since it was over $200 and I would have saved on shipping.

Oh well.

Well, I ordered up a 020 last night from 2 Bros. I will probably get it Tuesday or Wednesday I figure. Until then I will keep an eye on the 023 but continue to run it. I have no big trips planned this week so I should be fine and the weather looks good. Worst case if it starts to get too bad I will put on the PR2 that I have in spare.

I got 12k on the rear and 14k on the front of my original BT020's. They ran fine for me with only one minor slip in slimy conditions on the Dragon. The current rear I'm running is a Continental Motion. I'm getting a Continental Road Attack installed on the front tomorrow. I'll let everyone know how the Continentals work out after I get more miles on them. So far the rear has about 2k on it and has performed well. The only reason I changed from the BT020's was price and availability.

What was the cost on the Continentals? I didn't think the 020s were bad. The rear was $125 from 2 Bros
The cost was about the same once you add in mounting and balancing. The rear was on hand when I needed it so I went with it. I bought the front to stay with the same brand as the rear. Today, when the tech mounted and spin balanced the front tire he called me into the shop and showed me that it required no weight to balance. I did about 80 miles on the new front today and it performed flawlessly, well into the triple digits. Turn in seems to be very quick, better than the BT020's were when they were new. I had no problems with the BT020's, but went with the Continentals because they were in stock when I needed them. We'll see how they do over time.

I thought the BT 020's were being / had been phased out and the 023 was replacing them?

Perhaps I'm just

Weird - I have 6,000 on my BT023's and can barely measure any wear on either front or rear... just a hint of flat spot on the back. I expect 10k or more at the present wear rate. Best I've seen from any tire. I keep them at 42, and usually need to add air every couple weeks.

hi,
I just mounted 023 and really like them. Was running o20's with good results. I like the quick turn in of the 023's. Just think turn and they are there.. Then again I just had Racetech gold valves put in the forks and it's hard to compare when you change two things at once. I'm loving the handling of my tubby lady now. Also have the FCE mod so I finally have the ST I always wanted..
Turning nirvana

mitch..

Or you could ride the older sister,,,,,,,,:D
True. The weather isn't bad. My 1300 is set up for cold weather so I was planning on sticking with that for the rest of the season.

I got home from work and there was an 020 leaning against the door to my shop. I might mount it tomorrow.

Hmmm, got 6,000 miles on my 023. Front looks like new, rear is cupped and there is a good flat spot, I may get another 1,000 miles out of it.

Must be weight related. at least half of the miles are two up fully loaded in 100-109 degree ambient temps at 75-90 mph. the rest is two up fully loaded in 80-93 degree ambient temps along with putzing through some towns.

I run 42 psi front and rear.

I'll try another 023 for the winter where it's only me onboard, my wife won't ride with me in cold weather.......eh haw....!
