Can I get 11,500 miles out of a rear bridgestone 020?

I find myself in Columbus, OH with 10,000 miles on my Bridgestone 020 rear tire. Looks like it has some tread left. Need to return 600 miles to CT on Sunday and tire will definitely make that distance.

Looking at the RTE's there is one in MI Saturday at a mexican restaurant - looks great and has great reviews! The RTE is 430 miles round trip.

Would anyone that has run a bridgestone BT020 rear risk 11,100+ miles on the rear tire?

I've never gotten that much out of any rear tire... even the 020's I've run... I would say, to the 600 and see what it looks like then.

If it's a matter of only being able to change it now or miss the RTE then I'd say go ahead and change it as your mileage is pretty good so you've gotten your money's worth, especially since those are cheaper than other tires now.

I made the mistake of thinking I could get one more ride in on my PR2's as the rear tire was just down to the wear bars. I went just over 200 miles on twisty roads to the RTE and when I got there I had cord showing on the left side. So no I would not try it as I had to go buy a tire out of town when I had a brand new tire sitting at home:banghead:

I've got a new set of tires at home in CT. Looks like the consensus is don't do it without a new rear tire. Bummer.

I've averaged 16,000 miles a set on my first two sets of BTO20F tires, but wear depends a lot on your wrist. Currently have 13,000 on this set and the rear looks like I'll make 16 again easily. Thought about going to that RTE too but I'm having issues with my front tire and I've got to work tonight. I'm 428 miles away and could make it in time but the ride home with no sleep is pretty rough on this old man! So I'll change my front tire and try going to Moonshine next week. Russ.

My OEM 020's got me 14,370 miles and were at the wear bars. Never got that out of any other tire I tried on the ST.

I got 10,400 miles out of my 020 when I rode out to CA and back.

Are you down to the wear bars yet? You can get another 1500-2K out of it from there. Only thing I would worry about is riding in the rain.

The only rear I got that kind of mileage out of was the PR2 I changed out in September. That tire had seen more slab than I ever did on one tire before...to Moonshine and back, to OhioSTOC and back, and home from OnSTOC.

I'd rather change out a tire a bit earlier than need be than wait too long.

I just went outside to check my rear tire; the tread on the Bridgestone Battlax BT020R is still proud of the wear bars, though not by much. The odometer just turned 18,160 while riding into work this afternoon.

I imagine these are the original tires, as I bought the motorcycle last year with just 3,000 miles on it, but I don't know that for sure.

New tires are in the garage waiting for a day-off.

My last rear 020 only got 4900-ish miles to the wear bars... but, that's another story and I admit to nothing..

The real problem is ... you asked the question... so now, 1/2 of will get to tell you we told you so.. not sure which 1/2..

I have gotten 12K each out of two rear Bridgestone 020's. Best tire wear I have had on any bike I ever owned.

I have on one occasion wrung out over 12,000 on a BT020 and have always gotten at least 10K. Just remember that the last bit of tread disappears in a very short time. I don't usually like to push the tires too far because it's just not worth it in my book. Take a close look after you get home and see if you think there's still 500 miles left in the tire.

I get 12k out of the 020 routinely but I pushed it too far one time and ended up needing help from the RAN list to find a tire to get home.

I would err to the side of caution since you cannot just go to the local dealer and expect a rear for the ST 13 to be in stock or it will be a very expensive brand that you don't like and you will have to put up with it for another 10K

I'm on my 3rd set of BStone BT020F's as well. Got 12,500 miles on each rear tire. I got approximately 1000 miles of use past the wear bars on sets 1 & 2 (I checked them daily before my 15 mile commute to work at the wear bar point -- be sure to put the bike on the centerstand and check the whole circumference of the tire)
I religiously maintain 42/42 psi and I'm not overly agressive starting or stopping, weigh in at 220lbs + another 10lbs of misc gear.
At the wear bar point I don't ride except to work & back (surface streets only), so my recommendation for anything other than short trips would be to change them out at the time you reach the wear bars, for peace of mind if no other reason.

To many variables in tire wear will get you answers all across the spectrum.

I put 17k on the stock Bridgerocks on current STeed, although I will admit that was a fair bit more than I intended to run 'em.

I inspected the full circumference of the rear tire. I've got about 1/8 of an inch of groove left in the center of the tire. It is about twice the depth of the wear bars. I ride exclusively long distance highway miles so very little acceleration and stopping. About a dozen stop signs or traffic lights in the past 10,000 miles. The reason I posted this question is that I'm ultra conservative, maybe too much so, when it comes to maintenance - I changed out all of my headlights and tail lights at 25,000 miles/450hours just because...
