Has anyone here run both the Continental Road Attack 3 and Michelin PR4s and can comment on longevity comparisons?

The RA3 handled better, were less noisy, needed no scrub in period, and IIRC I got about 10K out of them (I replace ANY tire when it just touches the wear bars) Tires are cheaper than my medical co-pay etc.
The PR4 didn't handle as sharp, were very noisy at mid life, required a scrub in period, and I got about 10K out of them as well etc.
My favorites over the years have been Pirelli Angel GT's (normal sizes) Continental RA (all versions) and surprisingly enough, Shinko Verge 011 that I have on at the moment!
Two tires for half the price of a single Michelin was too hard to pass up, and these hot desert roads eat up tires pretty quickly, and there are not many twisty roads in my neck of the desert.

I can only speak for the PR4 ... never had a Continental on any bike.

For the price point, I'm not impressed with the PR4. I like the Angel GT and the Bridgestone BT varients ... will not fit a PR4 again (not worth the money, based on my riding style).

I currently have a BT023 on the rear (that's an OEM tire) and just installed a Shinko 11 Verge on the front, which we've amassed about 300 miles on, so far.

I agree with you. I ran several sets of PR4's. Every time that I bought a new set the price had taken a significant upward jump. It got to the point where the price was no longer justified. Two sets of Shinko Verge 011 are just a bit more than one set of PR4's. I am on my second set of Shinkos and have no complaints. I actually find them to be quiter than the PR4's.

Hi all, I am thinking of changing to Pirelli GT 2s on my 2000 NON-ABS ST1100 but they don't appear to sell the correct sizes. What sizes do you run if you have fitted these? I would like slightly higher profile tyres to the BT023s I have run for the last couple of years.

I had the PR4s on my NT700V. I got phenomenal wear on those...about 18,000. But I didn't like them. I don't even consider them as a replacement tire.

I sold the bike and bought the F800GT. I've had two sets of Continental RA3s on it. I'd buy those again in a heartbeat. None of the tires I put on the bike have lasted as long as the PR4s, but it is a different bike, and I ride it more aggressively.

The RA3s require no scrub in. Right out the gate, you can ride them hard. Same thing when you're starting out each morning. Tip in feels just right. They are a confidence building tire that eliminated any thought about my tires giving way on super aggressive riding.

FWIW, I'm using the new Dunlop RS4 on the F800GT now. No issues at all through the wet months in Puget Sound. Again, tip in feels just right. Supposedly they will wear longer than the Dunlop RS3, but only time will tell. I'd consider them a good alternative to the Conti's. There might even be a rebate on them to make the deal sweeter.

you can fit a 130/70-18 on the front but the tallest tire that will fit(rear) is the stock size. They don't make a 170/70, a 180/60 is actually smaller. I had a 190/60 but had to do some modifications . You're stuck with stock sizes. A 170/60 will fit on the rear but it is smaller.

Thanks Al, I guess I might try the Bridgestone T32s and see if I get on better with them.
