So my new addition to my garage is a 2006 ST1300P purchased at a local police auction. She seen better days but all I had to do is bleed the front brakes and add a left foot peg and she was galloping down the road. The plastics are cracked on the left side and basically has holes all over from the emergency lights. Myu question for the group is this, Has anyone purchased the Chinese knock off plastics on eBay and if so, how was the fit? I mean for just one left side panel via Partzilla its the same as a whole kit on eBay. Thoughts?

I've heard both good and bad about online plastics. It all depends on the manufacturer. Some fit like a glove. Others need some grinding and cutting for the panels to match up properly. That being said, some of those colours you can get make them real tempting...

Bob wrote a thread on his experience with the chinese plastics. IIRC, they were cheap knock offs and he ended up not using them. PM him.

I had a customer at one of the pet stores I managed that made regular runs to Mexico with his rig to pick up tankers filled with flour. He smuggled nose candy back as well. One the top inporters of the stuff in the late 70's early 80's. His truck was an old Mack, that was jet gloss black, on the side (I believe it was yellow paint) in cursive was the name "Black Bitch" and from what I understand, the name caused quite a bit of consternation with some people. I knew the guy fairly well, and knew he'd named it after his ex-wife. Believe me when I say the name fit her...

Welcome to the family .
Before you start spending all your money on cosmetic stuff, I’d seriously suggest inspecting a lot of stuff first.
From the appearance of your new toy, it does not appear to have been timed out by mileage:rofl1:
From the looks of the crash bars, or what’s left of them, she went down pretty hard!
Im guessing salvage title.
I’d be checking the entire front end, forks, wheels, stem bearings, exhaust damage, frame damage, clutch slave cylinder, and the entire brake system.

Box A Title and as far as why they timed it out, who knows. They are retiring these left and right in AZ. I will agree the crash bars are uniqe, but certainly not worse for wear. The plastic damage was in transport as they just lay them on their sides and lash them down two at a time. I bleed the front brakes and threw a peg on the left side and went for a ride. Runs great just like my 2016P.

They lay them on their sides and lash them down, because they were declared totaled by the department and or insurance company :rofl1:
There are many escort companies in this area that have fleets of these bikes that were purchased at police auctions, and they've been a nightmare to keep them running, and most, if not all local shops refuse to work on them.

I damage my left-hand mirror and order a replacement from China. They suppose to arrive mid of August.
I'll let you know how they fit.

I recently bought a eBay set of plastics and they seem (I haven't tried any fitting yet) like they will do the trick. They are an off color (cream) for the most part. The rear cowl was white. The lowers (belly fairings?) seem to be perfect, they even have the tabs for the heatshields.

These are totally different than the ones I bought back in 2013. They are injection molded, instead of pieces of plastic molded to create the parts.

I did notice that they have increased their prices and they are now coming from China, instead of CA, like mine did.

Since you are in Arizona, you might consider riding it to @Igofar's compusively neat garage (watch your step, he has guardian snakes about) for some R n R that cannot be matched anywhere. If you don't think the bike will make it, well, as you said, slap it on a flat bed truck best side up, strap it down, and hie onward.

I appreciate that advise! Bike runs like a champ. Just looking for advise on the Chinese Plastics.

Bob is the only one I remember (from his aforementioned thread) who has any experience with these. Others have asked questions about Chinese fairing parts, but nobody (that I remember) has reported what they were like if they followed through and bought them. Maybe you can update Bob's report.

I can attest after being flown in to work on several.

All aftermarket fairings have varying amounts of fit issues.

I put set of Hotbodies track fairings on my CBR600RR and they were atrocious! Not single hole lined up properly and I had to slot and re-drill them; some over 10mm away! There were huge gaps between panels that I had to bridge with zip-ties!

After couple seasons, I replaced with Optimal Fairings, so, so much better! Every hole lined up and panels met with proper overlaps. Still have that bike today and Optimal fairings held up great over 15-yrs of track duty.

When I wanted to race my Ninja 250, I got set of generic $150 fairings off eBay because OEM red fairings had been cracked and repaired from previous crash (more below). Fit was Ok, just needed minor slotting of some holes with circular file and that's it. Trick is to install ALL mounting bolts loose, 2-3 turns. Then gradually tightening them in multiple passes with criss-cross pattern. Used unpainted ABS mat-white finish for 1st season, then took them off and painted them. $25 of rattlecans later...

I find "quality" and "fit issues" with any fairing has mostly to do with tools and skillz available to you. If doing above operations isn't something you want to do, best to buy OEM fairings from dealer and have them install for you.

Another example of fairing "fitting". I got crashed by R1 that flew by on straight at Laguna Seca, then pulled over in front of me and slammed on brakes 200m from my braking marker. I rear-ended his bike, flew over and landed on his back like baby-koala!

Anyway, I repaired my fairings in 15-minutes and was back on track for next session.

1 IGOFAR suggestion. A must go through it before you invest
2 I recently did my 6th Gen VFR after a nasty tip over in the shop. Brand name Aukmarts

they are PVC injected molding and have nice colors.
Finished project - for the most part it came out ok.

they have minor imperfections and the tabs are more fragile. But holes lined up nicely

I've been seeing high-mileage ST1300P go at auction for ~$200-300. Might be good source for fairings and spare parts...
