Would appreciate your opinions on the new Suzuki GSX- S1000GT+ . At now 80 years old I could appreciate a 521 pound bike (wet).
It has a few pluses in the current July RIDER issue: besides being 200 pounds lighter, it has 136 hp, rides well, led lights, adequate side cases. And it’s a SPORT-TOURER
I would sure miss my adjustable wind shield, adj. headlight height, drive shaft, etc.
Just a thought - What’s yours ?

I test rode one, a couple of years ago. Nice ride, tons of power, but my hands were numb after 45 minutes from the buzz in the bars. Could have just been this particular bike, but I crossed it off my wish list.

Hopefully the GT+ version, released late in 2021, has some changes to improve ergos from the GT's sport bike roots.

Consider one of the BMW boxer offerings. They have all the features you mention plus a very low center of gravity. Those bikes have incredible balance and can be had with low suspension and low seat options.

In my opinion Suzuki's ship sailed a decade ago.

Those are some of the reasons I sold my ST and moved to a Kawasaki Versys 1000 LT. I am now riding more and farther with a lot less issues.

Your problem is going to be getting an exact replacement for the bike you currently have. That Suzuki might be ok for about 150 miles but how will you feel after 500? I'm in the same boat as you. That's why I'm keeping mine as long as I can. I agree with dduelin as the BMW and possibly the Yahama FJR 1300 are the only game in town.

Ken, you need to try a few and see what you fancy.
I've just lost a lot of weight, feels good and I don't think you'll be needing 130 bhp. But.......

Pardon my ignorance, but the only NEW motorcycles I've bought were straight up dirt bikes (motocrossers etc...) can you test ride road bikes? I was offered by a local dealer to ride a ZERO full electric the other day, but I haven't taken him up on it yet. Curious about being able to test something current is all.

All things considered (flame suit ON!), lack of a shaft drive is not the end-all for otherwise capable bikes.
Don't get me wrong, I love it on the ST, but it's the first and only shaftie I've ever owned. I can live with a chain, they are not particularly troublesome, all things considered.
Especially as few dualsports have them, and that will have to be my next bike.
We can't have it all, all at once. It's a nice dream, though, ain't it?

Unless you can find a demo ride, I have found that it's difficult to get test rides, especially for dealers of the Japanese big four. I probably would have bought a lot more new bikes if I was able to do test rides. Harley and BMW dealers seem to be more willing to allow them.

I remember when I went to look at my first ST1100 at a local Honda dealer.
The salesman tossed me the keys and said 'Go take it for a test ride'.
He had the paperwork filled out when I got back cause he could tell by the smile on my face he was fixin' to sell it!

I hear you Phil. I bought mine sight unseen. It was in the crate and the Dealer had just got it in. Put that $500.00 down deposit and came back with the cashier's check two days later and rode that baby 60 miles back home. That was one of the smartest decisions I've ever made.

Since I sold my Wing, I’ve been looking for a lighter, long range, shaft driven bike. Nothing that I’ve found, checks all the boxes except the BMW R1250 RT. I guess I’ll have to stick with my Versys 1000LT. It has plenty of storage, custom seat, and since I added electronic cruise, it suits me fine.

I did take a long look at a 2018, low miles Connie yesterday. Couldn’t find a salesman interested in taking my money.

Rode down to the local Dealer on my big Versys 1000LTSE and test sat a Suzuki GSX- S1000GT+ . Nice bike. Good build quality, aesthetically pleasing, but I could not get my 73 year old body to wrap around the seating position. Was very happy to return to my Versys. Can't go wrong with a Versys 1000.

Did it have the blue paint job? Is the blue a matt finish paint?

Agreed. I developed a chain-adjusting method that provides the absolutely minimal slop.

Ken, go out and get that son of a gun first thing tomorrow or somebody else is gonna have all the fun you deserve. I'll be darned if I would ask all these hooligans if they approved of this lovely gal I gots my eye on. You see somethin in this old Suzuki gal thats got your blood stirrin so you better not wait for our opinion. I just read the Cycle World april road test and it sounds like a good choice. 42 yrs ago my best Suzuki riding buddy drug me out to a famous still retail establishment to get my opinion on a gal he had his eye on. Well she was working that day and I gave her the once over and opined to my friend that he should look around because she moves fast and it'll be annoying. Well he took my advice and moved on. Now 19yrs ago I married that exact woman, she still moves to fast, but certainly has a lot of attributes not noticeable at first glance.

I watched a RevZilla YouTube review on this Suzuki, and they stated because of the underbelly muffler there is no center stand, and no center stand option. I'm one of those guys that has to have one. I think it's a great looking bike at a fair price.
