I decided to wax the bike really good the other day, and discovered that the bottom under carriage on the left side by the kickstand was melted. I could not believe it . I tried to trace it down and see if It was from something else, but I don't suppect anything. It melted pretty bad. Could this be from too much heat from the pipe?, and why would the other side look fine? I am also trying to find out if the bike is still under warrenty if honda would replace this and access the problem. I was really shocked to see this!

BIGMAN - Check to make sure the mounting screws are in correctly. The lower cowling can be a pain sometimes to gte properly positioned. There's no back screw on that side like there is on the right side that keeps it off the exhausts.

I actually added the ST1100 to the title based on his profile showing ST1100... I just changed the title to show ST1300.

Pictures would help... I've yet to see anyone show it that hot... some have had aftermarket tank pads slide around because the glue got hot and melted... some have had areas on their legs burned.
I won't say there is no heat problem because for some it is there. I believe it's a small number and most will tell you the bike gets hot when it's hot outside and also tell you to wear gear but I honestly think it has more to do with syncing up the throttle bodies than anything else.

Those pipes look like they get a lot hotter than normal, mine are just slightly discolored at that point. I'd be checking the operation of my engine, timing, maybe running too lean?
That appears to be a 2003. That is the only year model that DID NOT have the additional heat shield riveted into the lower section.
If you look at this pic, you'll see the difference, 2003 on top and 2004+ on bottom:

Doh!... sorry, guess I was looking at the frame color.. boy, I need to hit the road...
I would assume it is covered... maybe while they are at it they can diagnose why it's that hot... you never know, they may actually come up with something.
Have you looked at the plugs?
I had just posted a little while back about the bike running rough and losing compression. The bike was probably running very lean during that time. The bike has 62,000 miles and was not melted until just recently. Other than that I really have no idea what could be the problem.
+1 have you ever changed the plugs?
