Here's the replacement for the ST1300: 2014 CTX 1300.

No, the ST13 is a European (market) Sport Tourer. The CTX would be an American (market) Cruiser. Putting the ST power train in the CTX does not make it an ST, or its replacement.

Fred,

That's all well & good, but there is nothing new in the Honda ST realm in the US for 2014. There IS something new in the Honda cruiser line, using the drive train of the ST1300. I had hoped for a new ST using the drive train from the VFR1200 by now. Nothing happening there either.

Regardless of how you want to look at it, Honda has not offered anything new or even updated in the full-sized sport-touring realm since 2003 and there is nothing on the horizon. Sad.

I do think if Honda would have brought the CrossTourer over here they could have covered 2 markets at the same time.. Adventure and Sport Touring.. As much as that bike can be in both of those markets. But, I think they are just on the verge of announcing a true new ST version.. No, I don't think it will be a VFR1200 w/bags but it may look like that.. I don't think the CTX is it either ... but, we'll see.. If you can't wait there are many other options out there that's for sure.

I did not know the CrossTourer is shaft drive and the most direct competitor to the GS line. Maybe Honda is testing the Euro market with it and may bring it over here soon.
If it is here in the US before the new ST comes out, I definitely will be checking it out. I'm tired of waiting on the ST, but can't switch brands; I'm too hung up on their service manuals.

I'm back in the hills of WV now and the CrossTourer actually would be a better fit for me than a pure street bike for these wild and wonderful WV roads.

You must remember Norm that Honda hasn't "offered" the CTX1300--those photos were leaked. Most theories are that Honda will announce the bulk of their 2014 lineup at the EICMA show next month. I'm anticipating the unveiling of the VFR1200T, and Honda finally bringing the Crosstourer to the US.

But, I think they are just on the verge of announcing a true new ST version..
Part of me hopes you're wrong because I just bought a 2010 a few months back. Part of me hopes your right because it would be interesting to see what they do with the feature set and aesthetics. And if history is any indication, it will be around long enough that when I can justify buying a new bike even though this one doesn't have 200,000miles on it, it will still be around, largely unchanged.

I don't believe Honda expects to placate the S-T market and ST buyers. I think they'll either bring out an updated ST (the ST1500) or just drop it all together.

I got a good, close up look at the F6B at the Motorcycle Show in San Mateo today and if the ST and the category were dropped that would be my next ride. The seating position was perfect, center of gravity was lower, and the bike felt lighter than an ST. Put a real windshield on it along with the GoCruise I picked up at the show, and I'm ridin'.

I'm hoping Yamaha does something with the new 900 triple, that could make a great FJR 'light' platform.

Re: Replacement for the Honda ST1300 in 2014?

The more I look at the photos of the CTX1300, the more ST13 DNA that I see. And given the number of posters on this forum who like the F6B and consider it a candidate for their next bike, I think that Honda *may* have made the right decision in bringing out ther CTX13.

The spy photos were clearly from a photo shoot. Those were not test riders on that bike, they were models. I think we'll we see these same pictures in the advertising campaign for this bike.

Given that the CTX13 is kind of a cruiser/tourer crossover, I would not expect it to be any lighter than the ST13. Typically, full up cruisers in the big displacement category are 800 lbs. If the CTX13 came in at around 650-750 lbs, then it would be significantly lighter than the F6B.

I agree that Honda should have brought the CrossTourer to North America. If they did, along with the CTX13, I think that would likely eat up the majority of the current ST13 market. That would leave room for a lighter, 800cc sport tourer.

The ST13 has always been more tour than sport. When people ask about my ST13, I usually describe it as a sporty Gold Wing.

Re: Replacement for the Honda ST1300 in 2014?

I test ride the Triumph Explorer 1200 yesterday, awesome bike, nothing to complain except; yes it is top heavy. But lighter and more maneuverable than st1300 for sure at low and medium speeds. I don't do high speed (80+mph) turns.
I want to test ride the vfr1200f too. So we'll see how it turns out. I'll let you guys informed. It is sad that I didn't have time to test the explorer on the dirt.

The year is not over.. Honda doesn't always announce ALL their new models at that show.

yeah, they're supposed to have some more announcements on the 20th. However, given that the ST1300 is really just a rebadged Pan European, I'd be surprised if they were to announce the replacement anywhere other than Milan. Not saying they won't, just that I'd be mocking up the 2015 thread title. :D

Nah, at that point this thread gets merged with the 'will the plane fly' physics question and we start a new one.. LOL

Replacement for the Honda CTX1300 in 2025 thread...that's more realistic.

Plus One.

I'm thinking back to when I bought my ST1300. I had a VFR before it, and loved touring on it, but at the end of the day I wanted a touch more tour and a bit less sport.

With the CTX, I think there's just too much tour.

Fingers crossed.

So Joe, is the CTX1300 going to have it own Owners Froum, or are they going to be absorbed into this Forum with the ST1100 and the ST1300??

Maybe it's good news that there is a 2014 ST1300P. IIRC when the 1300 was introduced, Ma Honda still offered the ST1100 in a "P" model...
