If you look into your headlight you will see that the shield is under the low beam on the halogen h4. on the bottom. when you install the F2 the metal plate is vertical and the silver dish is on the bottom (down). you will also know that the wire on the back by the fan is down on the bottom.

I have those sitting on a shelf waiting for my bike to be done at the shop. It will probably be a few weeks before I can install them.

If you have a ST1300 you do not have to use the adaptor shims.
On the lights the large tab goes up.
Trim the side tabs off flush with the mounting plate.
Install the mounting plate
close the retainer spring
install the rubber boot
hold the lamp with the wire at the bottom when pushing thru the boot
look into the headlight from the front
make sure the shaft is verticle with the low beam shields facing up
you can twist the fan assembly in the boot/mounting plate to get the proper beam pattern

I have been running the LED lamps for over a year without the rubber boots. I live in Florida and my bike sits outside in the rain quite often. No problems. I ran regular headlamps for years without the boots with no problems.

I switched to a Euro headlamp housing years ago for 2 reasons.

1) To get the better performance compared to the US housing.

2) Didn't need shims anymore.
