To the OP so sorry about your lost. We are like one big giant family here and when we lose one member we all feel it. I was having a pretty good day today until I saw your thread...it just kind of put things into perspective. He belongs to God now and he will take care of him. I'm sure of that.

My condolences to his family.

“No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main; if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as any manner of thy friends or of thine own were; any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind." I've been riding to some of his tags for several years but just met TJ face to face 10 days ago. I enjoyed meeting him at the RTE but I sure hated to read he's no longer with us.

He left tags for us just so we can all get out and ride. I'll go move some of them soon. Thanks TJ. and rest in peace brother.

My condolences to his family and friends. I am looking forward to meeting members on our various events, sadly I won’t be able to meet TJ.
It’s tough losing a member of our community, but the support I witness here for those left behind is immeasurable.

Hate to ask (and maybe I shouldn’t)- any idea of specifics of what happened to TJ and Paul? Paul was 3 miles from home, TJ hit a deer- did they get ejected off the bike? Would more protection have helped? I know it’s 20/20 hindsight, but in their passing I wonder if we can learn something about ourselves when we ride and try to keep us a little more safe.

It’s the whole ‘there but for the grace of God go I’ thought. Lots of people come off the bike and do just fine. It’s a bit scary I guess and brings you humbly down a notch or two (or three).

My guess is blunt force trauma.. as you know, all the protection in the world can't protect you from certain forces.
In Paul's case, an inattentive young driver blew a stop sign.

As a paramedic friend of mine told me once, blunt force trauma is devastating to the internal organs that suddenly move rather violently and often in cases where one is slammed to a stop at speed, the aorta can be literally ripped from the heart. This is the way a woman rider I knew died, when she ran off the road in a curve and slammed into a cement culvert. No way to protect against an injury like that, other than possibly an airbag to slow the deceleration of the body.

From what I know he hit the deer, the collision sent him into the guardrail and then he was tossed off the ST out into interstate.
I don't know if he was then hit by another vehicle or not.
I'll be there Saturday for the funeral to comfort where I can.
