My 03 ST1300 with 47k has developed a leak from the round weep hole and will need a water pump. It appears to be a mix of oil and coolant. PO had it done about 2 years ago.

At it's age and mileage, would it be wise to get clutch plates and/or springs? If so, what other parts would I need?

I just replaced my water pump for the second time in 235,000 miles. On the second water pump rebuild I decided to replace the clutch plates and springs. When I tore it down and measured the plates and springs the only thing out of spec was the springs. I replaced all of it as I was in there.

Your clutch maybe OK or not with your low mileage. I would have the plates and springs on hand when doing the water pump.

Great question.
I really doubt you will need clutch plates. Some may disagree, but I changed my clutch plates and springs at 132,xxx miles and there was almost no wear on them at all. Save your money for later.

2 years between water pump replacements seems excessive to me..:think1:

Based on a lot of threads on here surrounding coolant issues, you may only have a leaking hose at a joint, seems to be a very common issue on the ST's. Seems like the recommendation is to use a different style of hose clamp. This article covers some of the leak/seep visual cues:

It's not overly complicated. A mallet works well for knocking bits out and then a bit of soft scotch brite to clean up the surfaces. Ensure everything is cleaned with alcohol during assembly. Ensure proper stem protrusion for the impeller and reassemble.
