Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

Think I'll just stay STOCK!!!!!!!!!!

I thought that Ivan's FCE would be the answer to the on-off throttle I was getting on my old '04 ST1300 A4............

Then I traded in my '04 ST1300 A4 for an '07 ST1300 A6 yesterday......... The on-off issue doesn't seem to be there!!!! Early days yet, I've only done about 250 miles since I picked it up yesterday, but the early signs are encouraging!!! :06biker:

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

One thing I noticed is if you set your idle to 1250rpm and take most of the slack out of the cable it makes a drastic difference.

Re: '07 ST???? Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

I have an '07 ST1300 non-ABS, and a FCE sitting on the bench.

Anybody with the 2007 model have results to post, positive/negative???

Much appreciated!
Jan...

:plus1:I have the same thing...jury is still out on this one...

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

My second one acted up today. Seemed like it happened after I stopped for fuel. Took off and felt a slight hiccup. After that the throttle was laggy. (best explanation I can give) Turned the bike off while I was moving and it felt better, but not like it was before the hiccup.

Seems like it happens about 500 miles after install.

that's right about when mine acted up...:(

Hmmm same here. Happened after a fuel stop. Felt a slight hiccup like you describe and then intermittently it would feel like the throttle wasn't responding, laggy is a great one line description. After each gas stop the behaviour would be different. I didn't try turning on/off while moving, but did think about doing that to see if it would make any difference.

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

I've experienced the FCE surging issue only during hot days and after the bike was stopped for a little while. Prior to installing the FCE, I have made the heat insulation modification under the tank as shown in the pictures in this post: https://www.st-owners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=66594&page=3. I'm wondering if this modification could make the air box/air temp sensor get too hot in certain conditions causing the ECU and FCE to work against each other.

I have trimmed down the insulation material to below the air temp sensor to just cover the gap between the airbox and the secondary fuel tank, leaving the airbox unobstructed to perhaps cool off better. I went out riding today trying to test if this made any difference but lately the weather hasn't been hot enough to recreate the proper conditions. I'll try again during the week as the weather is supposed to get warmer.

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

I installed mine today after reverting back to the original FPR. Didn't get a chance to button things up and take it out for a test drive. Hope to do that tomorrow.....

The install went pretty much per the instructions. Took a time or two to figure out which part of the crimping tool to use for the specific connectors and wires.

The only difficulty I had during the install was with the two identical white wires you have to cut. The instructions pretty clearly state that you have to expose about 4.5" of the two white wires, then color one of them red and one of them black for the full 4.5". I had a hard time getting that much length exposed in the harness. I colored about 3" of wire, then cut into the electrical tape to expose more of the wires. But, I forgot to go back and color the newly exposed section of wire. After cutting and installing the connectors I had a hard time determining which was which at the harness end?!? Gave Ivan a call this morning and found out the only downfall of having the two white wires reversed is that an O2 error from the ECU would be reported as the wrong side of the bike. No big deal. I might go back and determine which is which the next time I get into the tail section of the bike if I got them reversed. 50/50 chance I got it right. ;)

Road test to come tonight if my hamstring recovers enough from my wake surfing outing yesterday. :(

I'll be interested in your report Adam, I'm still on the fence right now, 'specially with WeSTOC departure less than 2 weeks away.

If it's easier to get to than opening up the tail again, you might try unplugging one of the O2 sensors and see if the ECU throws the correct code for the one you unplugged. Just a thought.

P.S. Trade you a hamstring for a bum knee! ;)

It's been a while since I tried the O2 sensor eliminators. Can you get to the plugs without removing the sides of the bike?

PS You can keep you bum knee! Mine are creaky enough! ;)

again ditto, I was able to just see the red stripe on one... the marker I used wiped off too easily

The bike runs but I am still buttoning up... I plan to install a cooling fan for the ECM's and the FCE... hopefully that will stave off the failure?

What makes you think they are overheating?? I <think> some of the heat issues people are having are at the sensors themselves, not at the ECU....

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

Problems with the sensors? Why does the bike run perfect w/o the FCE?

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

I don't think it has anything to do with something on the bike other than the FCE.

Knowing how thorough you are and the products you've tried, I'm anxious to hear your review on this after 500+ miles.

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

Point taken. But why would the FCE be causing the ECU to overheat??

There's a theory going 'round that the FCE itself malfunctions under high ambient temperature conditions as the hesitation issue seems to be reported more frequently then. Don't think anyone suggested the bike's ECU was overheating.

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

I don't think it's heat related because it hasn't been that hot here and also isn't very hot under the seat.
Mellow lives in TX and hasn't had a problem with his.

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

I live in Oklahoma and ride in 100 degrees+ regularly and have no problems...
