Where did you ride today?

I left on Thursday, the 7th of July for the COG Sierra Sidewinder 2022 rally at Topaz Lake. FWIW, this is the same resort as WESTOC will be at next month. I can send GPX files of the routes I took in the area to anyone who PMs me.

My route south to get there took me by Crater Lake, late in the day.

Coming back down from Monitor Pass. That valley is huge! Topaz Lake is down off the left side of the pic.

I love to look at rock formations. Questions pop into my mind like why is the soil and rock on the left a lighter color than that on the right?

Heading home on Sunday, going over Sonora Pass.

Look closely in the center of the picture and you'll see the way the road was with one curve after another.

I'd been riding for a couple hours enjoying Sonora Pass, and then I came around the corner to this.

They were already doing over 30 mph. I think I'll stick to less dangerous sports like motorcycling!

I spent a couple days at my daughter's home in Palo Alto, then headed north up Hwy 101.

They put on a good show and the new F/A-18 planes are 25% louder than the old F18's. They practice here twice week and I try to see them at least once a week. The summer air show was also at the beach here just 2 weeks ago.

Great pics! Don't you just love riding in the Northern Sierras? I really miss it!

I went out with James, a local rider who has the same bike I have. We headed across some back roads that included a lot of farmland to one of his favorite beaches.

If you look closely, you can see Mt. Baker in the background.

If you stop at one of the view points, you can see boats waiting for the tide to change.

Deception Pass is a dramatic seascape where the tidal flow and whirlpools beneath the twin bridges connecting Fidalgo Island to Whidbey Island move quickly. During ebb and flood tide current speed reaches about 8 knots (9.2 mph), flowing in opposite directions between ebb and flood.[7] This swift current can lead to standing waves, large whirlpools, and roiling eddies. This swift current phenomenon can be viewed from the twin bridges' pedestrian walkways or from the trail leading below the larger south bridge from the parking lot on the Whidbey Island side. Boats can be seen waiting on either side of the pass for the current to stop or change direction before going through. Thrill-seeking kayakers go there during large tide changes to surf the standing waves and brave the class 2 and 3 rapid conditions.

230 mile loop up into ALABAMA! to ride the world famous ALABAMA! highway 41. I rode the west route up to Atmore, Uriah to Monroeville. I had to ride fast from there on 41 to beat the quick building BIG Simpson's cloud before it got over 41. So north to 56 quickly, across to Beatrice and south to Burnt Corn then south to home. The last 50 miles were in the normal Florida daily showers. I was just west of it so it was light rain.

Both pics at Burnt Corn ALABAMA! The yellow store is actually open and sells cool drinks and not much more.

Just a short Berkeley Hills loop with some Hwy 24 thrown in for speed runs. I'm finally bothering to try and really dial in the handlebars to something comfortable for longer rides so I don't walk out in the garage one day and decide to sell it It's just such a smooth and capable machine even at 26 years old, but I have to solve the shoulder pain I don't seem to get on the GS. No pics, just imagine blue skies, trees, dappled sunlight and a smile on my face.

Rode to the Pride of Texas gas station BuCeeeeeees. It took me at least 3 minutes to duck waddle thru just to snap a pic. Hundred’s lined up to buy gas and expensive snacks inside. So busy 2 tankers on site unloading gas. I’ll bet they sell 25,000 gallons of gas a day on weekends. This was Sunday.

My wife and I rode the Trail Ridge Road about a year ago. Not on 2 wheels however. Entered at Grand Lake and exited at Beaver Meadows gates. I remember those specific overlooks.

Yes any time after 0900 unless you are going to Bear Lake. It requires a timed reservation at any time.

Just a little 2 wheeled scoot to the grocery for supplies for dinner. 16 miles to go to the store 1.3 miles away. Too hot to go for a long ride. Just looked at the home temp sensor and it shows 102F (38.9C) in the shade right now. The little bit of wind is not helping but rather adding heat to the body at that temp. Big drink of water before and also after.

Did it again... ran to the grocery store to get some corn on the cob on sale. 2.9 mile round trip... OOPs, not! 21.5 mile round trip.
This bike just doesn't know how to ride straight there and back. But it was fun just to see the sunset on the way through the countryside.

That has to be one of the most awesome Walmart sized convinience store's I've ever seen. Maybe one day they'll think oif migratingt to Arizona.
