Windscreen motor gear replacement parts and introduction.

I used the kit from bikequip recently. Worked great.
Any snags along the way, Ashley ?? I mean anything to watch for,, or that didn't go the way you expected ?? How did you crimp the furuels (sp) ?? cheers,, CAt'

I'm aware of the kit and that it works well. @SupraSabre installed one too.

The issue is it get's pricey with the Cdn exchange. Part and shipping is about CDN$300, then add in 15% sales tax plus an unknown amount in duty.

Poor STella's been a money hog this Summer and she still needs more items added to her to do list ( like an SMC.)

Is that splined gear a plastic piece?
I seem to recall it is, and the replacement (Bikequip is it?) makes his kit of metal?
Either way, it's more cash out.

I have a file in STL format for a 3D printed gear, however it won't let me post it here because the forum software does not a recognized the file extension.
I tried changing the extension to JPG but the forum wasn't fooled.
If anyone is interested PM me.

No real snags. It was a bit fiddly getting everything adjusted correctly so both sides are even. Read the directions thoroughly, then read them again. I used a compound ratcheting ferrule crimper similar to this one https://a.co/d/9NFjYKU

Hello,
I'm new here and to the ST 1300, I've been on bikes pretty much my whole life riding and wrenching. I've read a few posts re: the issues of the windscreen mechanism and now that mine is all apart and awaiting repair I'm reaching out for parts.

Also being I'm the FNG I can't PM anyone so if SupraSabre could send me a PM re if the he is still making gears that would be great.

Else where in this thread someone suggested placing a washer under the gear to shim it out some. That did not work, however I did place at each motor mounting flange an 1/8" flat washer to pull the motor away from the mounting plate. That relocated the gear just enough so that the cable indexs on a new spot on the gear. Works slick and cost maybe .10 cents. I'm sure it will fail again so will a new $500.00 assembly given that it has not been reengineered by Honda.

Interesting hack,,, well done. Shifting the gear position must have been tried in the past,,, one would think (@SupraSabre ) ?? Also,, if the cables had significant wear,,, could they be flipped,, so that the cable wear would not then more rapidly deteriorate the new gear tooth position ??
