The NT1100 Thread

If you need acceleration now don't rely on the box to downshift for you by opening the throttle. Instead hold WOT and use your thumb to drop 1, 2, 3 gears just like that. It will drop a perfectly rev-matched gear or 3 faster and cleaner than the best rider can. But be ready to see 100 mph pretty quick. At just 300 miles in I've settled so far at D or S2 depending what I'm doing with the bike. DCT is sublime on this bike from walking speed to hustling down a twisty road.
I’ve actually dropped 3 gears WOT a couple of times now and would have certainly looped it if not for wheelie control. Love that motor!

Sorry if this was discussed previously in the thread but for those with a NT1100 what other bikes were in consideration? Or more specifically how does it stack up against a Tracer 9 GT?

Givi does make an adaptor Tanklock ring that fits the NT1100 it is part #BF30 - I'm not sure what Tank bags fit it. I have a Givi Tanklock bag on my Africa Twin and I really like it. It's so nice not having straps holding the bag on.
How much room/clearance is on either side at full lock? The NT has a parking brake set up differently from the AT and it takes up a bit of room on the right hand handlebar.

Both are new/updated for U.S. in 2025 so U.S. user comparisons will be scarce. Only the base Tracer model is available. Bags are standard.

On my AT the handlebars do touch the bag at full lock but I do have 1" bar risers and the AT bars may be wider than the NT bars.

I'd love to see a multi-bike comparison. Too often, we get a regurgitation of the manufacturer's press release. Even the link billo linked to is only a "first look".

Kevin Ashe used to do some really great reviews. He even included details like the mirror heights to help decide if the bike was suitable for filtering. Unfortunately, he died in 2013 during a test ride.

I don't think I've ever had a 400+ lb. motorcycle that was easier to pop up on the center stand :)
Centerstand design and placement is ofter overlooked by motorcycle designers. Makes huge difference when designed right. It's the difference between a quick easy move when you put your bike away and a chore at the end of the day.

I would too. The Sport DNA vs Adventure DNA made it a no brainer for me, at 71 my heart still goes out to the Tracer while my knees thank me every NT day.
I'm amazed at my knees sometimes. Granted, they are part of my checklist when I stand up from the couch to see if I'm ready to walk. (Knees? Check. Hips? Check. Back? Check. Okay, you can take a step now...) But I can ride for hours with the balls of my feet on the foot pegs...comfortably. (Probably a result of spending a lot of time on my knees...) It would be nice if the motorcycle ergonomics webpage was kept up to date. The only negative I can see of my XR for some people is the rider triangle. The footpegs are high and will be a problem for some.

The "adventure" vs "sport" DNA is more in seating position. My F900XR has almost 7 inches of suspension travel, yet it would be lousy as a substitute for a GS or other "adventure" bike. And the S1000XR really blurs the line between "sport" DNA and "adventure" DNA. It looks like an adventure bike...but the engine is out of the S1000RR, a no holds barred sports bike.

If there is a multi-bike comparison test, I hope the reviewers use their heads to pick more of an apples to apples comparison, rather than just relying on displacement. The Tracer is a good alternative bike. I would love to see it in the comparison. But between the two BMW XR models, the S1000XR is in a different league or category than the NT. In a quick search, it looks like it has 170 hp. The smaller F900XR has the same hp as the NT has and would be a better alternative to test. But in the end, the reviewers will say that all the bikes excel and there's no "winner". :D So I guess I'm just dreaming that (a) a multi-bike review would happen, and (b) that it would actually mean anything.

I've often said I have a sport tourers heart and a cruisers body
A couple on a H-D were headed south on I-5. We passed each other several times over our journey's. I mentally made a note that his being able to stop and flat-foot it must've been nice. With a 28 inch inseam, I've never flat-footed any bike.

and I'm blessed with an actual 25 1/2" inseam :(

see.... cruiser body

:D I'll bet you just laugh at the guys who are 6 ft plus trying to fit into Economy seats on the airplane. Knee room? I got all the knee room I need...and more! :D :D

Tried that too ....it's better than one would think.

There's a bunch of older guys hang out at the coffee shop in El Paso IL. They all sold their bikes and got scooters. They travel on them too. Did a trip as far as CO that they told me about. These are not 600cc Bergmans they are old Honda Helix and whatever the other one is that Honda makes. Pretty cool guys to stop and have coffee with.

I can’t tell for sure, but in the picture above, it looks like a Honda Reflex (EDIT: Just looked again – it’s a Yamaha Majesty). I have over time had a greater appreciation for scooters (now mainly because I have one, the Silverwing). It is nice sometimes to just hop on that, twist, and go. I don’t mind shifting on a regular motorcycle, but it’s nice to have your choice when riding. I can see how bikes like a 750x DCT and NT1100 would have a large following because of the DCT.

Yep Honda Majesty 400. Wife bought one and I rode hers a couple of times, liked it and bought one for myself. Really nice scooters. I think all the Japanese mfgs have quit selling Maxi Scooters in US.
