Old Enough To Remember?

Did it work as well as their 'heater'?
Actually just lack of care/maintenance...
The heater channel hoses inside the A-column were paper lined... dew from the windscreen could run down there through the defroster nozzles in the left & right lower corners, causing the paper to de-laminate and collapse, thus clog the elbow in the air-duct running inside the sill behind the front wheels (ergo foot-well: full blast, windscreen: nearly zero air flow)...

On my '71 (already equipped with the "ventilation-croissants" behind the rear side windows) I simply thoroughly cleaned out all the offending paper bits (shop-vac and a piece of welding-wire with a hook bend at the tip to break/dislodge stubborn pieces), installed new hoses inside the A-columns and voilà: never needed so scrape ice again, ever...
Max heat with full air-flow on the windscreen, right from the second that engine fired, whilst liquid cooled require a few minutes to warm up the water-jacket; even worse on 'modern' cars which prioritize fast raise of engine temp over cabin heat due emission regs...

My dad had the exact same equipment in 3 rooms of his dental office, until 1976 when he retired. I grew up playing with the foot operated chair lift and the belt driven drill. He drew the line, when it came to playing with his X-ray machine.
