2008 Honda ST1300
I hit a deer around 11AM in West Virginia on Thursday. I was on Jordan Run Road about 1.5 miles south of WV 42 (around 20 miles north of Seneca Rocks). The deer jumped out of the woods from the right hand side of the road and I estimated that I had about 2 seconds before impact. Only enough time to brace for impact. I was traveling around 55-60 mph, fortunately I kept the bike upright. I had zero injuries. The deer didn’t survive. My bike doesn’t look that bad, I was able to ride it 450 miles back home. I’m estimating there is $2,500 in parts alone that need replaced not including any labor cost. Unfortunately I fear if I turn it into insurance it will be totaled out. I’ve considered fixing it myself but the left fairing needs replaced and it’s not available from Honda. Seems it all adds up to just let insurance total it out and look for a replacement.

Glad you're ok and could ride home!! The last time I dealt with my insurance for a bike claim (2004 ST1300), they totaled it, gave me a decent amount then held $600.00 for "scrap value". I kept the bike, repaired it, and had it re titled as rebuilt. The guy I sold it to is/was very pleased. Your insurance/State may vary. Best of luck.

I'm telling you they are out there to get us! ;)
Sorry to hear about your deer encounter but glad you were able to keep the bike up and escaped unharmed.
I'd start looking on EBAY (especially EBAY UK/Europe) for parts.
You'll probably need a fairing stay (assuming the ST1300 has one like the ST1100) also.

Another one of us tagged by those critters. Glad to hear you are ok. It could have been a lot worse!

Not sure it’s worth it. Probably just let it go. Headlight assembly, Front cowl, front fender, both left and right cowls (not available from Honda), front fender and possibly the stay (can’t tell if it’s damaged without removing a the tupperware.

Dang, been one of those years for deer hits, not like that really ever changes, but glad you got out of it and home.

Good luck with insurance, doesn't seem to matter if the bike is old or new, it gets totaled.
I don’t mind it being totaled as long as they give me a fair value for it

Not sure but if your interested, just saw this listing. That's all I know.

I'm happy to see this wasn't worse.
Consider running the left side fairing by a body shop and ask if they can repair and repaint it. These can be repaired if there are no missing large pieces. Check out some of the threads on panel repair on this site.
I like the bodywork on the 1300 and 1100 ST's, but their replacement cost can total the bike even if the frame and everything else is in fine condition.

I was pleasantly surprised at the NADA value Progressive gave me for my ST1100.
Of course then they take out the $1000 deductible!
Another option would be if you could find a ST1300 'non runner' with good bodywork at a reasonable price.

Sounds like you are OK and not for nothing but that IS the most important thing. Shame for the bike. I’ve had some nice rides with my friend @wbgva_roadkill at and around the Seneca Falls area; truly spectacular but I can see where this area would be thick with these forest rats.
Let the insurance do its thing, shake it off and park it as a story you can tell around the campfire.
Take care.

Very glad you made it through the ordeal without injury to yourself!
With that said, your bike will have more damage than you realize!
Your probably going to find the two mounting point of the front stay have broken off the frame.
The insurance will total the bike for this alone.
Your probably going to find the headlight mounting point (plastic) have broken off too.
Some of the things that may be damaged beside the plastic stuff are as follows:
Forks, wheel, radiator, handlebar mounting grommets, headlight assembly, steering head bearings, windshield motor assembly, etc.
The insurance plays a game by offering to let you buy it back for a percentage of the value, this is BS! They sell the bike for scrape for $150 dollars.
Negotiate a price, tell them you want to keep the bike, they will offer you a higher price, because they know they are going to get the cost of the buy back etc.
Then when the come to bring you a check, tell them you changed your mind, and they can keep the bike!
One last thing…..
Before they come to pick up the bike, or you remove personal items from it, you may want to remove the ECU as you will be able to recoup some of your money :rofl1:
