Legend says that coffee was discovered by a Ethiopian farmer noticing
his goats regularly started bouncing off the cliffs after eating coffee cherries...
So the first barista was a confused random person watching a livestock rave in 850 A.D. ...
Are we all just following some Bovidae life coach advice?... :coffee:

G'Day...

-3°/+1°C overcast and still some flakes coming down... 🌨️

A winter wonderland but far from the predicted 20cm/8"... barely half of that accumulated during the night...
Still sufficient to create quite some havoc... as expected... 🙄

snow&traffic.jpg

the m/way east of Vienna is completely shut down after some semis managed to crash and or get stuck... SOP every year as drivers from abroad are too ignorant to put chains on...

I choose to avoid any major roadways and drove through the villages, still agonizing... 😒
Folks who don't even care to clear their vehicle from the snow, to then crawl around like driving a T-72 with closed visor are especially annoying... 🤬

The trusty front wheel drive Toyota however just claws itself onto the snow covered tarmac (about 2~3 inches...)
Proper winter tires, not overinflated (1.8 Bar/26 psi are well sufficient for an estate with 1,400kg/3000lbs...) paired with the torque of the 1.8ltr undersquare 7AFE engine...
Avoid wheel-slip by rolling on in 2nd gear, put it into 3rd after 3~4 feet and just throttle away... 😎

however, stay safe out there, don't end up in a ditch... 😎

Thx Martin, I believe you would be an astonishing driver in the Arctic Rally !
The Toyota salesman who sold me the Rav4, was a former Rally driver, wow what stories he told.
Learned me a few snow driving tips too, and how to override some of the driverassistance systems.

Temp is around freezing, 25mph now, will be 45 later. Overcast, a storm is moving in…snow-sleet-rain.
It’s probably worth at least one pfffffft!

It’s Friday, but no drinks for me. Awaiting surgery, I’m adviced to be teetotal for a while.
Mrs Stu is getting better slowly…
We’ll visit her dad later. He’s getting a PCApump today….he’s clinging to life, but there’s no hope.

Have a good and cheerful one!
Stu

Bedroom view this morning….storm moving in…..

Morning all, and thanks Martin for getting us started.

Stu, good luck with the surgery.

-15 here and clear, headed to a mostly sunny -1. Lots of black ice on the roads as the snow melts in the day, water runs, then freezes in the shade or as the temps drop at night. Lots of falls and vehicle oopsies are happening as a result.

Hope everyone has a good day and stays upright, unless you're trying to sleep.

Obo.

Good morning everyone

Thanks for the coffee jolt, Martin. Good luck with the surgery, Stu; this is the hand thing, right? And pre-condolences to Mrs. Stu as she witnesses her father fade from her life.

It's 37°F in Rockville, where the steady light rain has either continued through the night or resumed; either way it's raining now and will continue for another couple hours, after which we'll gradually thaw to around 50°F with clearing skies by sunset.

Yesterday was an official Rest Day as per my health / fitness ring. I was definitely not at my best, but feel somewhat better today though I'm not ready to tackle anything ambitious. Coffee drinking, computer time, cricket watching, and ukulele playing should be ample to keep me entertained and amused. If I do get a spurt of energy there's always the spin bike lurking quietly at the bottom of the stairs, waiting to spring into action.

Stay safe and well everyone and tell your dear ones you love them. Do it today, NOW, for tomorrow may be too late.

Good morning, and thanks for the coffe start, Martin.

It's partly cloudy and 26 in MA this morning, rising to 31, later.
Mixed precipitation will begin after noon, and we're told to expect 1-3" of snow.

I made it to the gym, yesterday, and not much else.

Today, I'll try to get out with the neighbor's dog again, before whatever wheather happens.

Enjoy the day,
Steve

-3 and tea for me
I should have been a song writer, oh well
looks like we'll dodge any significant amount of snow here in the bottom corner of the lower mainland at least at my elevation will get the earliest possible start on the workday and fire up the VStar after my carb cleaning

Is it the beginning of the end or has it been going on unbeknownst to me already?

Posted a thread sort of query about my carbs on the VStar Forum and got a somewhat detailed articulated and encouraging response, just before I was [honestly no bs [this time]] was just about to start typing my opening line - there's life out there! thanks for responding!
Looked at who was posting - ForaFrank - joined some weeks / months back, okay, then I read the fine at the bottom - AI generated response

Somebody likes me! :wine2: I mean, he's a robot, but who cares!!!

Wish everyone a good one

Morning Martin and the rest of you lot.
I don't care how coffee was introduced to civilization, and I don't care, but I'll be surprised if he's not in heaven, as one of the greatest contributions to society.
Stu, before they put you under the sleepy drugs, tell the doctor to measure twice and cut once.
No freezing here, a day or two back, we set a new record high for that day. Today in the 70s , and it's been a lovely week. Don't need extra clothes just to step outside with my coffee.
Even though i know this is just a cruel tease, the fact is, spring is near.
Which means, through the process of deduction, that summer is also near.
Summer always follows our 5 days of spring.
Nice.
Lunch tomorrow with the nieces, nephew, and their 3 babies. There's a joint called Big Bad Breakfast which is one of the favorites in my world.
And... not much else to prattle about, so I'll pour a refill and close out my work week.
But remember --
"A day without sunshine is like, you know, night." — Steve Martin

Good morning all!
It’s a decent kind a day so far!
I’ve been out for breakfast with the Friday breakfast group, had a good turnout, lots of camaraderie!
Our driver was under the weather, so I picked up some of the crew.

Presently a sunny 76f/26c with today’s high of 88f/29c.
What’s next?
Enjoy your day!

Good morning everyone from sunny Florida!
Good luck on todays procedure and quick healing.
That view is actually stunning, no matter the weather.
69f right now, ditto copy of yesterday.
Whats a gym?
It concerns me that it there are a number of volcanoes, all around the globe that are seem to be getting more intense. i hope the planet is not constipated with mankind and getting ready to blow, but then again maybe it’s just tech, revealing things have been happening all along.
I wish my VA check would get here, I hate this newly dictated fixed income situation, but the health and physical seem to be hanging in there, thank God. I cringe to even think when my body would tell me, or prevent me from riding. Seems like I have already lost the most precious things in life. I see now how as the years go by it becomes more obvious how important the simple things really are, wish I learned this earlier.

Like Coffee! And the simple comradery that comes with it, the weather, conversations, so simple, yet where would we be without?

I want one of these.. for local and around town. 🤣

I do have question on ST clutch fluid capacity, not knowing where it goes after the reservoir, about how many reservoirs does it really hold? If that made sense, or how many reservoirs does it take to completely flush it out?

Anyways let’s see what the day holds shall we?
Enjoy!

Good Morning, Day 4 of" Watson" filming crew at the Airport, second day of filming. Crew went home at 22:00 so me got to bed at midnight. Morning Martin & All from confused skies, over Southern Utah!

I can see blue skies overhead, but it's snowing. :unsure-2x:

Currently it is 29F, up from 25F and heading for 34F. No breeze right now, and the snow is falling straight down. Later the winds will be out of the NW @ 6 to 7mph. Last night left us with about three inches of new snow, so I'll be out later with the snow blower. After the snow is done this morning, that should be it for a week or so.

Stu, sorry about the FIL fading like he is. And hope the operation goes well.

I went out yesterday and tried to clear the snow from Chris's part of the driveway, so she could go visit a friend. Like I said, I tired! I was able to scrape off a couple of inches, but under it, it was all ice. So today, I'll have to try to scrape it away, since the temps will not be warm enough to melt it off. So I pulled her Highlander out of the garage and parked it on the part of the driveway that was cleared. So she was able to go visit her friend.

Once Chris wakes, we'll have breakfast. And Pepsi(s) will be had later.

Anyone :bk13:, have a great day on the roads! :hat3:

It is not a good day for me thus far. Thanks Martin for the attempt, but coffee is not even remotely strong enough to counter the anger and frustration I feel at this moment. As for a weather report, it's cold, wet, and cloudy...apropos.

Just yesterday our entire department has been told to vacate our desks and move, to be out by COB Tuesday. We have no spaces waiting for us, only a couple of cubicles to store our stuff until those ppl vacate which they get to do so at a leisurely two-week rate. My anger lies not with the move but with the forced rapidity and lack of comms from our leadership. Even they seemed to be blindsided by this. It ain't right and we're getting the shaft. If there's anything good about this, I get to WFH until our new spaces are clear, presumably in two weeks. But that also means no volleyball or jazz rehearsal for me. It's all kind of deflating, but I have to remember that there are ppl dealing with a lot more stuff than this (@STooRay and the Mrs). Perspective.

My head is spinning, so I haven't much else to convey. I hope today ends better than it began. Please take care y'all!

Morning all. Grey and overcast here but no rain. Chilly though. -1C right now with a predicted high of 5C. I actually had to scrape off the car windows this morning before heading for a swim. Usually, it's more squeegeeing than scraping.

Working from home today as I have a dental appointment this afternoon. The first one in about 3-4 years I believe. Should be lots of fun....not.

Stu, good luck with the surgery, condolences re your father in law.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Awaiting surgery, I’m advised to be teetotal for a while.
We’ll visit her dad later. He’s getting a PCApump today….he’s clinging to life, but there’s no hope.
My bad, Stu!
I hope your surgery goes well!
I’ll also offer up my condolences for you and Mrs.Stu!
Her Dad’s eminent departure from his golden years, isn’t something anyone would want to rush!

I can relate. Before Covid sent us all home, we kept getting rumors that our group was going to move to a different building and our boss kept telling us about this nice area where we would move to. This went on for like 6 months. When they finally moved us, it was to cubes 1/3 the size I had and in a small area! Our group continued to get the shaft, right up until Covid sent us home. And that's what started my move to Cedar City.

So, I can't complain too much, now that's it's all over, including the job! :cautious:
