Probably none, if oil and filter was changed on a somewhat regular basis.
Just bought the PL14612 at my local Menards $7.99 + tax, doing the oil change this coming weekend. Have been using this filter for the past two years. That plus the one gallon size Rotella T6 15W40 full synthetic, brings the oil level to the middle of the sight glass
. Total cost $34 compared to $60 plus with the Honda oil and filter.

A good friend, who owned a Honda power sports store, said they never saw an oil related engine failure that wasn't due to simply lack of oil in the 25+ years he owned it. He remarked that, if it wasn't for plastic sales, they never made much money on Hondas once they were sold.
Just curious —- is the Honda ST oil filter a take off of the ever so common and economies of scale Accord. Civic ( etc) 15400-PLM-A2.

The below listed filter looks like it may be the Honda filter intended for the ST(?)

Oh no..... I have been using the Hiflo 303 filter https://www.motorcycleproducts.co.u...aces-champion-cof303-x303/1/036432?bike=11227 for a long, long time. I didn't know there was such a thing as a bypass pressure setting 
But then again, why would I ? The only thing I care about is that the filter is specified for my bikes. I take one off and put another on..... how do you guys sleep at night having to worry about such things

If your oil filter gets plugged you have a much bigger problem than the oil bypass spring tension. Though the bypass will sometimes open when the engine is cold and the oil does not flow easily through the filter media. Though the automotive Purolator filters have much more filter media than the typical motorcycle filter so it makes it less likely the filter will restrict when the oil is cold. I used the Purolator PBL14610 for years when I had my ST.
