I don’t care how “organized” you are...
If you can function before coffee, I don’t trust you... period... :coffee:

G'Day...

15°/27°C, a damp, muggy morning, partially cloudy, severe weather warning for the afternoon... ⛈️
Trusty Toyota it is (even ze GF hopped into her Octavia...)

home and office caffeinated... ☕

SSDD at the office... :cautious:

Will do some part research, ST carbs in particular... 😎

Also if HEL can offer those stealth-design braided lines for ze GF's NT700VA...
if the '94 ST passes the MOT/inspection without complaints with them installed, I might equip the whole fleet...

And now, lets dig into that Outlook inbox... pfffff... :cautious:

have a good one! 😎

Good morning everyone

Thanks for the coffee Martin. Why would MOT object to brake lines encased in braided steel?

It's 62°F and mostly cloudy in Rockville, with partly sunny and a high of 82 expected.

Mrs. Fun leaves today for her sister's place in PA, ahead of said sister's health care procedure tomorrow. Not sure how long I'll be left unsupervised, nor precisely how I'll spend my time today although a bicycle ride seems like a good idea, sometime after Mr. Sun gets up and going. We'll see what else I can get up to.

Stay safe and well everyone and tell your dear ones you love them. Do it today, NOW, for tomorrow may be too late.

Modification of the standard vehicle condition/MFG's homologation which can influence traffic and operational safety...
• §33 Motor Vehicle Act (KFG)
• §22a Motor Vehicle Act Implementation Ordinance (KDV)
• Amendment decree on structural changes to vehicles (change list 12/2015)

what requires official registration:
- wheels and tires (any change to the wheel and tire combination that is not specified in the vehicle approval document, even if only the wheel size or type changes)
- chassis modifications (any modification to the chassis such as handlebars, fork bars and bridges, shock absorbers, chassis springs, etc.)
- installation and removal of add-on parts (fenders, windshield, seats, footrests, license plate holders, speedometers, indicator lights and control devices, etc.)
- chassis changes (shortening the rear, removing built-in components, etc.)
- lighting (changing the installation or position)
- silencer (exhaust systems without E-mark)
- brakes (additions, conversions and additions to parts of the brake system)
- engine conversion and changes to the engine (mixture formation, turbo, etc.)
- performance changes > 5% (applies to reduction as well as increase)

modifications not requiring approval:
- rims and tires approved by the manufacturer in the vehicle documents (on the vehicle manufacturer's standard rims)
- headlights, lights and reflectors with EC approval (E-mark)
- rearview mirror with EC approval
- additional fog/high beam headlights (provided the permissible light intensity index is not exceeded)
- exhaust systems with EC approval (approval must be carried)
- type-identical or technically equivalent parts of the brake system
- window tinting films with EU approval mark (approval must be carried)
- engine replacement (same type)
- performance changes < 5% (applies to reduction as well as increase)

So lemme see:
- both LOW beam H4s always on (both ST's)
- running lights (both ST's)
- taller windscreen (both ST's)
- Middleton Parking Brake (both ST's)
- Wilbers suspension ('00 ST)
- Top Sellerie seat ('00 ST)
- taller/wider P-spec handlebar ('94 ST)
- P-spec switch-pod ('94 ST; not to mention wig-wag, strobe setup and siren amp they haven't found yet... :devilish:)

Till current day they'd only objected on the running lights on both (hence disconnect before check) and the reflective livery on the '94 (hence removed)...
So far I've been lucky... 😎

its all depending on the discretion of the 'inspector'... and/or the political doctrine behind... 🙄
(the "climate panic" global marketing scheme with its witch-hunt on "old, ICE vehicles" is still on... and they all want our best... our money 💵...)

ze GF's previous ER-5 Kawa had a silver braided line installed (weak front brake to begin with), the inspector had her fail over it...
took me a while to locate and obtain an OEM, 2nd hand (hence old!) front brake-line for that bike... but with that she passed... :cautious:

hence my way of obtaining the unobtrusive, all black, 'as OEM' set by HEL...
technically surely serving better then the +30 year old OEM lines on that '94 ST... but we'll have to see...

Good morning, and thanks for the coffee start, Martin.

It's sunny and 53f/11c, rising to 82f/28c with even more sun!

Yesterday's motorcycle track day went off well. We had a few who "bumped up" to faster groups, and not a lot of crashing. One low-side in my turn woke me up a bit, but he rode off, just a little chastened.

While I was up in the platform for my turn, I got to call the plumber and leave a message. I also called the VA to arrange for a tech to check out my hearing aids. One doesn't power up, and trying to listen, especially to the phone, with the other is a no-go. I'll see them tomorrow about that.
I also made another call to the VA to get approval for, and then schedule some PT on my ankle. I'll see them in early July.

When I got home, we went out for dinner at one of our local restaurants. I was kind of unimpressed, and need to poke Brenda to find another to replace it on our restaurant round-robin. At one point, they were a decent local chain, but after the owner sold out, it's become more generic and meh. We actually stopped going to the one up in Loudon, because of food and service.

Today, I'll be back at the track, for a car day. This will be a combination of "The Club" track day, and race school.
We'll see where they put me, today.

Enjoy the day,
Steve

Martin, Is your MOT as strict as the TUF in Germany. Do the EU countries has the same vehicle inspection safety standards? Or is it just a money grab?

Thanks for the coffee Martin. Your MOT sounds absolutely draconian.
I understand NoKo has a list of approved haircuts and hairstyles, with penalties for being too creative.
Nuts to all of that.
I don't have a hairstyle,...I barely have hair.
Pfffttt, indeed.
Alabama does not have annual vehicle inspections, which I appreciate. But that does mean there are a few questionable machines on the roadways. I don't see many, though.
It seems the weather-guessers are telling us there's a 5% chance for rain today, but a hundred percent chance for 100% humidity.
So Kaiser can get out of the house today, and ride in the trailer.
Other than that, I've written a lot, to be only on the first cup of coffee.
I should stop now.

Does that mean sit down and shut up?

:roflmao: good one!
"imperial royal civil servants" are deeply embedded and have to justify their own existence somehow... ;)
Your MOT sounds absolutely draconian.
Well, I'm all in for safety and roadworthy... 🧐
I too hate loud pipes (totally unnecessary nuisance), dazzling or barely noticeable vehicle lightning, etc...
And I'd get quite pissed over being wiped out by someone with dodgy brakes or loosing control over his vehicle due improper tires/wheels/suspension/modifications...
There are valid reasons...

Blue Jamaican in the French press. Stuff costs as much as good pot. I afford it by avoiding good pot (and whiskey).

Last year I was stopped at some road work and heard screaming tires behind me. Looked in the mirror to see a Dodge RAM totally out of control but happily headed for the ditch instead of my six. He slammed a concrete culvert head-on and shortened the truck substantially. If you can't Dodge it, RAM it. I wish the redneck southern states did at least the minimum safety inspections to limit the number of unguided missiles on the road, but once a government gets on to legislating a topic, it is like an animal tasting first blood. They can't stop. The responsible then suffer for the sins of the irresponsible.

Morning, all. Thanks for the cup, Martin.

73/84 with all day rain. Accumulation of 1”, and the repeat button has been pressed for the rest of the week.

One more doctor visit this morning. This time it’s my ENT. Nothing wrong, but insurance requires an office visit to continue paying for my CPAP supplies.

G'mornin' from SoMD! Boy, all this talk about vehicle inspections and MOTs has me cringey yet also relieved at our Maryland's sad-sack regs. They require ONE inspection prior to initial registration, and that's it. They do a biannual emissions "inspection" which is a money grab since all they do is walk around with a mirror, test the fuel cap and plug the OBD in. Most cars today are so clean even when running poorly they easily surpass emissions regs. Now, I've seen some real bad cars still on the road because of no follow-up inspections. But I don't think it's right to expect a vehicle that is 20+ years old to still have and look OEM when parts become more scarce...unless they are implicitly trying to get them off the roads. New parts are better than old parts even if they don't "look" original, at least I thought so. Yes, there is the question of fake or cheap parts...some qualification is in order but to just ban any non-OEM looking part is indeed draconian. Anyhoo, sorry to hear all the hoops you have to jump through over there, Martin, and thanks for the coffee and conversation starter!

Today is not a normal day. Working from home so that we can let Princess #1 go over the rainbow. It is time. Samantha "Sam" has come such a long way since we picked her up from the animal shelter. She was severely traumatized as a pup, did not like men, afraid of eating, couldn't approach her with anything in hand. Over many, many years we were able to give her a stable, loving home that she could feel comfortable and loved. We gave her a home and love that she deserved, and for the rest of her life.

Welp, time to get back to work. Maybe get some garage stuff done here & there but I doubt it. Take care y'all!

Oh I meant to throw a photo of the El Cheapo Android Auto head unit from Wallyworld. I can't get it to connect to the TPMS sensors yet but I think I'll try fresh batteries. So far my only other niggle is that it doesn't have its own battery power. so every time I go to start the bike it cuts acc power to it, which makes it have to reboot. But I have it plugged in to my power sockets at the moment. If/when I hardwire it, I'll fix that.

Good Morning, today's thread really makes me grateful to live in British Columbia, no Vehicle inspection ever year, and we dumped Aircare inspections as well. The Police can pull you over if they think you are driving a unsafe Vehicle or one to loud and or polluting. Speaking of Vehicles, worked on Lady this morning to figure out what I did wrong on my 10 V to 7.5 V converter. Blow the fuse testing the Cigarette outlet with my test light, blanking shakey hand touched the positive and negative bits together. Mind hamsters got me out of bed at 3:45 , gave up and went and fixed the bike. So now might try a nap , have had Breakfast and Coffee. After a nap, have a phone call appointment with my lung doctor and if weather improves go to Electronics Store for terminals and wiring so I can run my heated gear from the newly installed converter.
Got said Converter from Bruce&Shark auto parts $ 23.09 shipping and taxes included. OH yeah weather really wet and 54 F IMG_8040.jpeg

@St-Gerard 10v to 7.5v? That's an odd set of numbers. I'd have figured 12v to 5v if you were changing bike voltage to say USB. What are you doing with that?

From the photo, it also looks like you have the black and the red wire from the transformer tied together on the ground of the 12v socket. Looks like a short to me.

UNLESS, that's a lit switch and need a ground, and there's currently no wire running from the switch to the + terminal on the 12v socket. If it keeps blowing in that case, perhaps the +out from the switch and the -for the light are reversed?

Hopefully running my Battery operated heated gloves, and vest . There's a few more affordable options in heated gear that run on 7.5 volts than 12 volts, but extra batteries is were it gets expensive. I do have a USB charger/ Volt meter in the dashboard of Lady. On high my Karbon heated gloves last about 2 hours, a little not long enough when I go to our Williams lake property, which is a 8 hour ride though Mountain passes. Hopefully it works, we will see, G

Morning all. The day has dawned sunny with a bit of cloud. It's currently 14C with a predicted high of 17C.

JD, sorry to hear about Sam. It's always crazy difficult to lose a member of the family.

We had a bit of excitement last night; a tree dropped a huge branch that ended up blocking our driveway. Fortunately I was able, with the assistance of my daughter and her boyfriend, to move it all off to the side but I think the tree is going to have to come down so that it doesn't topple over and take out the neighbours' house.

Hope everyone has treemendous day!
