Why would MOT object to brake lines encased in braided steel?
Modification of the standard vehicle condition/MFG's homologation which can influence traffic and operational safety...
• §33 Motor Vehicle Act (KFG)
• §22a Motor Vehicle Act Implementation Ordinance (KDV)
• Amendment decree on structural changes to vehicles (change list 12/2015)
what
requires official registration:
- wheels and tires (
any change to the wheel and
tire combination that is
not specified in the vehicle approval document, even if only the wheel size or type changes)
- chassis modifications (any modification to the chassis such as
handlebars, fork bars and bridges,
shock absorbers,
chassis springs, etc.)
- installation and removal of add-on parts (fenders,
windshield,
seats, footrests, license plate holders, speedometers,
indicator lights and
control devices, etc.)
- chassis changes (shortening the rear, removing built-in components, etc.)
-
lighting (changing the installation or position)
- silencer (exhaust systems without E-mark)
-
brakes (additions, conversions and additions to parts of the brake system)
- engine conversion and changes to the engine (mixture formation, turbo, etc.)
- performance changes > 5% (applies to reduction as well as increase)
modifications not requiring approval:
- rims and tires approved by the manufacturer in the vehicle documents (on the vehicle manufacturer's standard rims)
- headlights, lights and reflectors with EC approval (E-mark)
- rearview mirror with EC approval
- additional fog/high beam headlights (provided the permissible light intensity index is not exceeded)
- exhaust systems with EC approval (approval must be carried)
- type-identical or technically equivalent parts of the brake system
- window tinting films with EU approval mark (approval must be carried)
- engine replacement (same type)
- performance changes < 5% (applies to reduction as well as increase)
So lemme see:
- both LOW beam H4s always on (both ST's)
- running lights (both ST's)
- taller windscreen (both ST's)
- Middleton Parking Brake (both ST's)
- Wilbers suspension ('00 ST)
- Top Sellerie seat ('00 ST)
- taller/wider P-spec handlebar ('94 ST)
- P-spec switch-pod ('94 ST; not to mention wig-wag, strobe setup and siren amp they haven't found yet...

)
Till current day they'd only objected on the running lights on both (hence disconnect before check) and the reflective livery on the '94 (hence removed)...
So far I've been lucky...
its all depending on the discretion of the 'inspector'... and/or the political doctrine behind...

(the "climate panic" global marketing scheme with its witch-hunt on "old, ICE vehicles" is still on... and they all want our best... our money

...)
ze GF's previous ER-5 Kawa had a silver braided line installed (weak front brake to begin with), the inspector had her fail over it...
took me a while to locate and obtain an OEM, 2nd hand (hence old!) front brake-line for that bike... but with that she passed...
hence my way of obtaining the unobtrusive, all black, 'as OEM' set by HEL...
technically surely serving better then the +30 year old OEM lines on that '94 ST... but we'll have to see...
