I have relatives in Ontario, Canada— specifically Hamilton, Ontario: not too far from Buffalo and Niagara Falls, NY.

If I were in the market for a new scoot,
I would probably do a “fly -N- ride” deal.

I once helped an acquaintance in Europe buy and import an older American V8 land yacht— a mid-1970s Chrysler of some sort. Anyhow it was a little bit of a process but it wasn’t bad on my end. Just a couple of forms to fill out, call the shipping company, make sure it’s got barely enough gas to drive itself up the ramp onto the boat that’s going to take it to Europe… (Full fuel tanks not allowed )…that’s all.

Yes it is in very good mechanical condition and runs as it should. Tires should last another 3000 km.
You already have a '99? Adding to the fleet or want to stock up on lots of parts?

Anyone know what it would take to get it across the border and registered?
Just check with CBP website to ensure you have all documents completed before making the move.
Personally I would trailer it in case there are any snags at the border.
Bruce. I forget. Does that midel year have klms and miles on the speedo?

An interested buyer has appeared, but requests a safety inspection (at his expense). Local big box dealer won't touch anything over 19 years old.
I know it's a long shot on this forum, but looking for recommendations in the eastern GTA?

PS inspection mandatory for new buyer to plate it

There must be a small non specific brand bike shop in the area that their mechanic would do that check for you? Try Champion Cycle.

Here is the last place I used to get an inspection in Ontario. Really good guy to deal with. It doesnt have to be a bike shop in Ontario. I have used auto inspection places outfits in the past in Ontario. https://maps.app.goo.gl/iaNV6xK2HfAbeRsk7

On a general note, in Ontario, getting a mechanical fitness certification has become more complex and costly in recent years. Shops that do certification are required to log onto a government website, and in real time go through the inspection detailing each requirement and provide photos of the components so that a mechanic from the government can remotely verify that they are indeed safe. To get these photos, the mechanic in the shop may have to disassemble the vehicle’s components more so in order to get a good photo to upload.
The shop now needs to buy a dedicated tablet, purchase the software for the task. They also have to complete the task at hand without disruption in order to not be kicked off the session. Basically, mechanical certification done in small shops have become cost prohibitive.
Further, if a vehicle is over a certain age, it requires an additional appraisal by a certified appraiser to determine the value of the vehicle for tax purposes before the vehicle can be registered in Ontario.
Apparently this is to make it smoother to acquire a used vehicle and get it licensed.

Wow, things sure have changed then. I wasnt aware of this.
Edit: It may still be worth it for the OP to give him a call. He is or at least was a goldwing guy. If he cant help, he may be able to point him in the right direction.
