Way back in May 2006 someone asked if anyone had put their ST1300 on a scale to see its ready-to-ride weight.

In the eleven years since that post I wonder if anyone has weighed their ST1300.
The reason I'm is I'm trying to figure out just how much heavier the ST1300 is compared to the FJR and C14.

All of this to satisfy my wavering thinking about my ability to manage an ST1300 on the ground thus looking at the FJR and C14 as lighter options.
If they aren't appreciably lighter then I can put this factor to rest.
I'm also looking at them because they all have a lower CG than my current Tiger 955i and the current crop of ADV bikes (V-Strom, GSA, Super Tenere, MG Stelvio)

Spoiler alert: ~705 lbs wet with bags.
Seems the advertised ST weight of 730 is barely more that the ready to ride weight of the FJR.

The C14 advertised weight C14 is heavier than the FJR so I expect it also will push 700 lbs.

To keep from comparing apples and oranges (ST1100s/ST1300s) it helps to know what bike you're talking about. Sometimes when a poster doesn't make this clear it can be divined by the forum he's posted in. This assume he chose the correct forum. But that can be missed by other members.

A clearer way to advise the model without having to mention it in every post is to include your bike year and model in your profile. It's then visible to the left of the post.

Look at the icons (photos) to the left of members' posts. The first line is 'Bike'. This flags the member as a rider of either an St1100 or St1300. This way, we know what we are referring to. You can do the same through your Profile edit. Just a time saver, may avoid some confusion or the reader's part.

Because it tells someone WHICH ST you're talking about. Different years may weigh pretty close to the same but an 1100 may weigh much more or less than a 1300.

You know there are two major models of ST right? ST1100 and ST1300.

Yup I'm aware of that. My apologies for not being explicit in my original post.
(I've edited my original post to reflect that I'm looking for ST1300 weight.)

I weighed my 2005 ST1300 non ABS at 720 lbs topped off with gas and with the bags off it was 700 lbs. ABS adds about 9 or 11 lbs. Depending on model year the ST weighs 45ish to 100ish lbs more than the others.



Unless you have problems pushing bikes around and that is what you base the decision on I think using just weight alone is short sighted. Leg reach to the ground counts for more than mass alone and we ride bikes much more than the time spent pushing or paddling around on them. How the bike carries the weight and handles while in motion should be everything. Otherwise get a scooter or cruiser with a low seat height. I'm 5'6" 29" inseam.

That's exactly what I was looking for!
So in fact the ST is in exactly the same weight range as the FJR and the C14 when the latter two are weighed in a true ready to ride state.

Not basing my decision on weight alone however I want to know that the other contenders are effectively the same weight.

The more subtle reason for wanting to know the weight is because every time I mention the ST to someone who knows about the bike (but doesn't own one) says they are too heavy.

I should add that we (my lady and I) have ridden an ST and really liked it.
I'm 5'9" with a 31 " inseam and had no trouble moving the ST around.

That's rhetorical but gets to the heart of the matter. It's not their bike.

Well either too heavy or so heavy.
This raises an interesting problem.
The manufacturers provide weight figures that reviews them regurgitate thus cementing the figures in riders minds.
I think for accuracy all bike reviews (of maybe 500cc or more) should include a trip to a certified scale.

I met a guy once that was riding a VTX1300 and seeing my ST1300 remarked that he previously owned one and the ST was too tall and too heavy to enjoy. I remarked I owned a VTX1300 before the ST and it felt like it had a hinge in the middle of the frame when going fast enough around a curve to be interesting. Too each his own and we each were riding the right bike for us.
 
Try taking your bike to a dump station... I haven't tried; but, because they 'charge' they'll know to the pound!

not so sure about that, if you're talking about landfills, etc. they usually charge by the ton, and weigh to about 50 or 100 lbs resolution, maybe 20 if you're lucky. Haven't been there for a while, so I may be wrong, but they're not going to weigh to the pound.
