A final follow up on the temp issues on this ST1100 -
After having another 'too hot to be normal' incident on a long ride I was really confused.
New water pump, new hoses, new thermostat, cleaned grounds, new water 'necks', fresh coolant, cleaned radiator, etc..
The only thing I hadn't replaced was the overflow hose which looked to be in good condition.
With nothing left to try, I pulled that hose and tried to blow through it and it was very hard to do with very little air flow.
Turns out the hose was collapsing from the inside when hot and cutting off the flow.
That makes sense since the coolant level in the radiator was up to spec and the coolant level in the overflow jug was up to spec.
I replaced it with 5/16" automotive heater hose (readily available and sturdier than the Honda OEM one but a little snug to fit).
That solved the issue which was probably what the original 'heat' issue was the whole time.
Sometimes it is the 'obvious' that causes us grief because it 'looks okay' so we don't investigate.
