Louie Louie

Got my 1/2 price Pro 7 Sport unit today (Kit 6). Anyone else have this thing?
Feedback and advise welcomed, as its a bit confusing.. Good instructions though. Just want to see if anyone here has the same unit.

I took advantage of the same Autocom deal last December. Intercom works pretty well but I haven't hooked up anything else yet. I have an XM radio I plan to install hopefully this next weekend and I need to test out the cell phone feature. I also plan to use MP3 and FRS/GMRS at some point too.

Installation isn't difficult at all as long as you have a decent power source already installed. I wish the wind noise in the helmet (Shoei X-11) was not as loud. I can still hear clearly but it would be better if the helmet were more quiet. Be careful installing the speakers in the helmet if you have to remove any material.

Don't hesitate to ask anything at all.

Just got mine installed... sort of. Helmet (Shoei rf-1000) is all wired up and the Pro7 Sport has been tested off the bike. I pick up my new 2005 ST1300 on Saturday morning. It was much easier to put the manual down and just figure it out. One thing I found missing from the manual was how to tell which speaker connector was for left or right sound.

I understand your confusion on this one, but after looking at the wiring, it does become clear that the speaker with the longer lead is the opposite speaker from the boom mike!

Sounds as clear as muddy water, it depends on which side you want the boom mike to come from. So, if you are fitting the mike to the left side, then the longest cable is to the right ear, if you are fitting the boom mike on the right side, it is opposite!

I know where you are coming from, and my way of thinking is that because Autocom are a British company, they probably think that most people will bring the boom mike in from the left side of the helmet, much the same as the British Police have systems fitted. Now when we talk about you guys riding on the wrong side of the road LOL, you may want the mike coming from the right side of the helmet!

Just my thoughts on how companies work, and of course typical Brits, keep em guessing LOL

Thanks for clarifying Mick. I was hoping that the mic was installed from the left side. Based on the pics on the box, it appeared that they set it up to be installed on the left. I didn't know that there was actually a reason why it was done that way. Your explanation makes sense to me now. Wow... I got it right the first time for a change.:D

This sounds like a nice thing to have, so forgive my ignorance. What does this little device control/do? And where can I look at one on the web? Thanks

Here's a link to the Autocomm website: http://www.autocomamerica.com/docs/home.cfm

Basically it's an audio and communication management system. Depending on the specific unit you purchase, it will integrate various combinations of your MP3 player, XM radio, rider to pillion communication, bike to bike communication, voice / audio prompts from your GPS unit or radar detector and pipe it all into you helmet speakers / ear phones. You can have music playing and when you start talking to your pillion or to another bike, the music is automatically attenuated so your speech always takes precedence without you having to turn the music down manually.

You can contact Louie Louie for info on where you might be able to locate the Pro7 Sport. Autocom is phasing this unit out in favor of their new unit coming out soon. The Pro7 Sport is a great unit and right now, if you can still find one, they're on sale at 50% off. A really great buy.

There is also a group buy going on in the Group Buy section for the Starcom1 Advance, which is another very good unit based on what I have read. These units are extremely modular so you have to pay close attention to what you are buying. Make sure you get something that not only addresses your current needs, but keep in mind what you might need down the road. They're not exactly inexpensive so put some money into doing it right up front.

Great post Scarman...I dont think there are any left! As you said, I would contact Autocom and ask if there are any units left and where to get them. If not, I would go w/ Tim's group buy. You may still get the autocoms in the UK I believe.

More Autocoms 1/2 price

I was mistaken. I got an email from Autocom's distributor:

" I also know that Cycle Specialties in Modesto, CA has some of the units available as well (209-524-2955). If they turn out to be out of the units just let me know and I will find you something!"
