Boots beginner boots

I've been wearing these Daytona TransOpen GTX boots since 2012. They're still waterproof and will definitely last another 10 years.

Holm from Germany

I use the timberland pros. Been everywhere with them. Ive had them for over five years and they dont leak yet.
Anything that says “motorcycle” gets expensive. My gloves r from home depot, my rain gear from dicks etc.

Laces untended can get caught in levers. So tend them. I've seen a few pics of boots on the ground sans feet. They were boots without laces that relied on zippers. These appeared to be 8-10" boots that got sucked off the feet of the wearer. So while zippers are convenient I choose boots with laces with or without zippers. I do have a pair of 8" boots with both for longer rides particularly on highways. Then I have a pair of over the ankle lace boots for around town across the bay types of rides. We all set our own level of threat assessment as well as dress for the weather.

I do sometimes wear a pair of over-ankle 6 eyelet Wolverine work boots. After tying the laces I tie a couple of square knots with the laces to make the 'loops' too small to catch on a footpeg or control lever.

Tourmaster Helix waterproof boots, vented or unvented, are economical and offer motorcycle specific protection without breaking the bank.
Those look pretty great, do you have the vented boots and if so, how are they for keeping your feet dry?

My current boots are similar and boy do my feet sweat by the end of the day.

Not to hijack this thread...At breakfast this morning with our mc club, one of the guys who took a trip to South Africa this past summer told us about some of the wildlife he saw. He said lions would not bother most humans - we smell bad to them. They also won't go after our food if it is left on a table and he has a picture of a couple of female lions sniffing breakfast (people were at a safe distance). "But," he said, "hyenas are another story. If you sleep with your tent open and bare feet exposed, they will very often come up and start gnawing on them." I asked if that meant a few toes would go missing. "Oh, yeah," he replied. In light of this thread, yet one more reason to wear appropriate footwear.

To be transparent I have the earlier Tourmaster WP 2.0 boots not the Helix. One pair of WP 2.0 has vent panels made of a generic GoreTex material and the other does not. Both pairs have proven to keep my feet dry in heavy sustained rain but I get the most use of the vented ones. I live in the Deep South USA with heat and humidity to spare.

Here's a picture of my new Gaerne Fastback Enduro's next to my Aerostitch Combat Touring Lites.

If the price scares you, you can look at used motorcycle boots. I've had great luck buying used ones in great shape. Most of them just needed a good polish.

My neighbour went to Italy a few years ago and rented a Vespa, was wearing shoes, was about to start off from the curb and a cyclist whizzed by, in trying to avoid hitting them, she jammed her foot between the moped and the curb and fell over and had many fractures, to this day cannot walk properly after many surgeries and infections that set in.

Great comments. You realize that the OP made only one post and hasn't signed back onto the forum since last Tuesday at 4:11 am?

It's amazing what we'll do with a subject like this. Two things come to mind:

First, this is almost as good as an oil thread.

Second, this is only January. The first part of January. Imagine what it'll be like in late March if we're this bad now? :D

Nothing quite compares to an oil thread!

Things can only get better. Keep repeating that. If nothing else, more of us will be on bikes in March.

The Subaru Outback forum has a thread on the $5 Crush Washer. At last count, they are close to 400 posts.

We are not the only nuts looking for a 10 mm spanner.
Not having seen it, I'd wager it must be the oil drain plug washer. That many posts has to be oil related. :rofl1:
