Bike-Quip Shield Review

I ordered the 20" tall , extra wide one on the 18th and it was at my door yesterday , the 29th . Impressive . I haven't had a chance to go for a ride with it on there yet but it looks great .

Wel Mellow have you got your screen yet thats about a week since ordering?

Not yet, still in customs as of 28th.. I'm assuming it should be here next week...

Of course, I'm still waiting for my adj levers from Hong Kong that are 'supposed' to be in Chicago since 9/30.. LOL

Well , I've had a chance to go for a ride with this windshield installed and my first reaction was that I just blew another 200 bucks . Although it looks great , the jury's still out on whether or not I like it . I'm getting a lot of noise coming up between the shield and the dash . I have to raise it up a little higher than I like in order to eliminate ( or should I say reduce ) that noise . The shield that I took off is a Calsci medium. It's almost exactly the same size as this Bike Quip shield . The Calsci has the vents down low and I'm not sure if that's what reduces the noise or not but I believe I'm left with three options .

Option 1 - I'm going to change the position of the shield to the upper adjustment in the bracket and see if that helps .
Option 2 - I'll trace the vents from the Calsci onto this shield and cut them out with a dremel .
Option 3 - Off comes the Bike Quip and on goes the Calsci .

I hope I can come up with a solution because I really like the look of this shield . It just makes too much noise .

Maybe I should dig my Bike-Quip out and give it another test - I'm obviously in the minority here!

I'm with you on the BikeQuip screen. For me, it's OKish, but I find it noisy and it rattles my head around too. My pillion hates it!

I'm wondering if a larger central cut-away would improve matters...... Or maybe cut about 2"-3" of the flip-up off so that I keep the width, but reduce the height to that of the standard screen......... :think1:

This shield is a lot better then the OEM..I rode to Tx and back and it was very good...

I was able to do about 420 miles yesterday on the Bike Quip shield.

I got the clear standard version.

Delivery and Packaging
The box showed up fairly quickly, within 2 weeks, given it was coming from the UK.

The box looked like it had been hit by a truck... but, the shield was undamaged.

Fit & Finish
The shield fit the bike perfectly and it appears to be of very good quality. It's a bit thicker than the OEM shield.

When you first sit on the bike, you notice the distortion in the shield where the curve starts however, it quickly goes away at speed and after a while you forget it's there.

Cost
Just under $200 shipped to the Dallas, TX area.

Effectiveness vs OEM Laminar Lip combo
The Bike Quip shield has pretty much the identical flip the laminar lip has. I felt like the Bike Quip shield does somethings better than the Laminar lip and likewise, the Laminar lip does somethings better.

The Laminar lip pretty much just affect air at the top of the shield and it's more squared off than the Bike Quip shield, so it affects the air flow with that shape.

The Bike Quip shield is more rounded at the top but it's wider and pushes area out on the sides more than the OEM shield does.

I feel the Bike Quip shield is about 80-90% as effective as the Laminar lip at the air on the top of the shield but does more for air on the side that the OEM shield / Laminar lip combo as they don't address this area at all.

I did notice something strange which I think has more to do with gas, temp or some other issue but I lost 5mpg on this test ride. This included 2 tanks of gas at to separate stations, one in Texas and one in Oklahoma. I also was running with my OEM pipes as I wanted to get a video/sound clip using the OEMs to compare to the Delkevics. I have a hard time thinking putting the OEM pipes on would cause a loss of mileage as I don't remember a jump when I put the Delkevics on.

It wasn't real windy yesterday but it was cold. My temp gauge was at 3 bars so I don't believe it was a t-stat issue.

I am going to put the laminar lip back on for an upcoming trip to see if my mileage jumps up. I'm curious if others w/Bike Quip shield noticed any drop in mileage.

Conclusion
I think this is a great shield and if you don't like the look of the Laminar Lip it will perform almost as well as that option

I just saw this Thread for the 1st time....
If anyone is still interested in opinions :shrug2:

I had the large with the tint for a season. I liked it very much for solo riding and I too kept it about 2" up from the lowest position. It was quiet and managed the airflow well. I could look over it riding down the highway without wind issue.

For 2up i had to raise it and I did not care to look thru the lip. Also with the tint I did not like it in bad weather full up or night riding up.

If you do most of your riding in good weather and like looking over the shield this is a great shield. Otherwise you may want to reconsider. Also I would advise against the tint option.

I do also think it is a good looking shield mounted and had good customer service and delivery as well.

I ordered the ram mount for my GPS for the center of the handlebars from them at the time and it worked great.

I actually purchased Ohio Scott's shield from him. I only ride one up so it works well for a 3 season shield.
I never have raised it up off the bottom.
For me it is just too hot in the summer. I cut down Cee Baily and used it all summer.

After many hours/days/weeks  reviewing windshields here on ST-O I ordered the Bike-Quip shield this weekend. :hotpepper
The 21" Flip top screen, +2" wider - Clear
I appreciate all the info I got here from you all. Special thanks to Mellow for his help on my specific PM questions.

I completely agree with some of you, that as with a lot of farkles, windshields are a very personal preference choice, what one person loves another hates.
I'll report back after I receive and try out on the Bike-Quip shield as compared to the stocker.

Re: Bike-Quip Windscreen

I have the same problem, at speeds above 45MPH the electric screen motor struggles to put the screen up. I have a 2002 ST 1300 and maybe as has already been said, the motor may be weak. However there is definitely increased protection and less wind noise so all in all it is an improvement on the original.

Re: Bike-Quip Windscreen

I have the Bike-Quip screen. I have it on the upper of the two possible fixing locations, so that when the windscreen is at its lowest position it is as sloped and aerodynamic as it is possible to have it. Raising just a couple of inches brings it to eye-height and the least noise/buffeting. If I put it all the way up I reckon it must go to seven feet at the top!
