Broken Exhaust Clamp

Wow, I'm surprised it supports itself..

I have never even looked at mine in that location. But the ones close to the mufflers wore out on mine and I had to replace those a year or so ago. I need to check these ones next time I do an oil change.

Having read up on common issues with the Pan, I had a good look underneath at the exhaust clamps when I took delivery of my new-to-me 2008 bike a couple of weeks ago. The bike came from an independent dealer but with a fresh MOT. One of the silencer clamps was very corroded and definitely needed replacing, the one on the other side was nearly new. The one on the join pipe was notable by its complete absence! The gasket was doing a good job and there was no leak or noise, so better than just a push-fit with no gasket. I bought a set of 3 stainless clamps from Bike Quip which are designed to be fitted without taking the joints apart. While I was under there, I cleaned a lot of gunk out of the centre-stand pivot and lubed that, stripped the stand of corrosion and put a couple of coats of hammerite smooth on there. Good afternoon of tidying up.

Today I was putting on 2 Bros pipes. Evan after spraying the clamps and bolts with Liquid Wrench the past 2 day, both bolts snapped on each clamp. Clamps are in great shape , bolts were justed rusted chunks. Couldn't even twist them out with vice grips. Anyway a quick trip to the local Honda dealer (not that I expected them to be in stock) told me they are also used on VTX 1800's. They would have to order them. 4 bolts at $1.25 each and 2 clamps at $26 each.

Auto parts store had 2 1/4 inch universal muffler clamps for $3.50 each. They'll do until I have a large order this winter.

Mine did that a few years back.

Mine did that a few years back. I took the clamps and cut off the nuts, they are just tack welded on the edges. Use a dremel or a cut off disk in an angle grinder. Left me with a nice clamp and a couple of ears with holes going clean through. I then used some better quality bolts/nuts and washers. Finding SAE sizes is easy but I dug and finally located some stainless metric. Think I put in some 8mm x 40 (well painted with anti-seize) so I don't have a mish-mash of sizes when I work on the bike.
