Hello fellow riders, looking for advice, my bike 2012 ST 1300 abs model. 5500 kms.
Due to where I live and my job I don't get to ride as much as much as I want.
The Clutch on this bike is slipping as in engine will runaway when riding by twisting the throttle but will lose speed.
It will work when the eng is cold, engine doesn't run away, but within a couple miles the problem returns.
clutch lever is very stiff and friction zone is near the end of lever travel. Feels to me like riding with the clutch lever pulled in.
I was using t6 rotellla 15/40 end oil. Changed back to Honda gn4 10/40 . No change in clutch feel
ive flushed and bled the clutch hydraulics, also no change in clutch operation.
is it possible for the slave clyinder to have seized ? Feels to me like the slave clyinder is not returning all the way, cause the lever to have no free play and the slipping clutch.
with only 5500 kms on this bike Im having a hard time believing that the friction plates are worn out, and ideas ?
and yes I do have warranty left. But Honda won't replace worn friction items I'm told .

.02 A clutch pack slipping at 5500kms is a warranty issue.
Defective as opposed to normal wear.

Somebody should be along with thoughts on the level feel.

2 years ago, my brand new ST1300 was delivered with a 'tight' clutch lever. The clutch gave up the ghost after riding 7 miles. I had to be recovered, but it went back to as it was after the engine had cooled, and could be ridden - presumably for another 7 miles. It turned out that the plunger at the clutch lever was not inserted into the hole in the brass bush in the lever - rather it was resting on the edge of the hole. In effect, I was riding with the clutch lever part pulled in. This might suggest that the person assembling didn't know that the hole for the plunger was there.

:plus1:
This is the first thing I would check!
Take a 10mm spanner and a large std screwdriver and check the following:
Hold the pivot dowel with the screwdriver (do not attempt to turn) and loosen the 10mm nut. Once the nut is removed, then unscrew the pivot rod. You will find a brass bushing in the lever with a hole in it that allows the plunger rod to mate into it.
Also check the condition of the rubber boot to make sure they didn't pinch or tear it.
I'm guessing this is the problem.
The boot and bushing can be replaced by you.
Let us know what you find.

Well, that does sound like the problem I'm having , however the bike is in Honda's hand now so I can't check the plunger. But I will pass the info along to them. I'm told there about 8 days away from looking at it. Maybe that will speed things up

You can stop by the dealership and inspect it yourself in two minutes. Simply push the lever forward and it will expose it enough to see if it's in the hole or not.
Beware the dealership may use this to generate revenue by telling you something else is wrong and billing honda for warranty work that is not needed.

Turns out the problem was just as was stated, clutch pushrod was out of place in the bushing. Clutch is fine now.
