Don't buy from Chaparral Motorsports

I don't know if you ordered an oem tire or not but the original Bridgestones G548 and G547 seem to be getting scarce. I tell you what I do is I order from my shop that does my work and let them know I don't want a tire over 2 years old the fresher the better. But with that being said I may be forced to take what I can get and be glad I got it. You do pay a little more ordering from a shop but its little money to pay if you order a bad tire from a online supplier and find out after the dealer installs it because you will have to pay for it. That's right pay for the installation and the deinstall and the shipping back to the online retailer. Don't ask me how I know.

Actually, I will be using a Bridgestone Battlax T31, as I really liked how the last one felt on the bike.
 
I wish I could get 5 years out of a tire.

Other than cost, I'm lucky I guess. Being a daily rider, I'm stunned if my tires last 6 months/10,000 miles lol
 
It is a non-ABS '97 model, and I got roughly 5,000 miles out of the Battlax T31 I am replacing. But I do run the front tire at 34 psi, which is slightly below the spec of 36 psi.
 
Maybe another consideration is the fact that the front tire for the ST11 is a bit of an oddball size, so I doubt they move a ton of volume of them. If they don't sell the ones they have, then they really take a hit in the long run by stocking them, which may lead them to no longer carry that size in that brand, etc. etc. Then your options for price comparison shopping go down, and you, the customer, not the webstore, are the one left hurting. I'd say mount it and ride the heck out of it and forget about it. But you know what they say about opinions ;)
 
Do I have unrealistic expectations?
Not going to answer that. But I bought a tire (Angel GT, I think) that was 3 years old, and returned it. I paid shipping. Turned around and ordered it from Revzilla. I've consistently gotten young, fresh tires (1.5 yrs old was oldest) from them and they have free returns, and yes, as you said, I've been loyal to them (tho I do look elsewhere (trust but verifty) and buy from them after my research (looking around).

I've also asked vendors what their policy is on returning a new tire if I don't like its manufacturing date (before I buy it). They all ship from a warehouse and admit they have no idea what age tire I will get. Everyone has given me an answer (tho not all are what I want to hear).

I got about 7,500 - 10,000 km (4,650 - 6,250 miles) out of my T30 and T30 tires, roughly a season. Rear toast, front had some tread life left, but I always changed them as a set.

Why would you run a tire under inflated at 34 psi? Spec is 36 front / 42 rear and many people feel the front spec is low and run them at 38 - 40. I did with no negative handling issues and better tire wear.

I ordered tires from a dealer with very high volume (Pete's Superbike in Montreal) and tires usually arrived anywhere from 4 - 12 months old. I typically had a spare set on hand at ST1100 tire sizes can be hard to find at times so they'd be maybe 8 - 16 months when they finally got installed on the bike. New to me Tracer has much more common tire sizes and tire life seems to be better, but I plan to order a new set long before the ones on the bike wear out just to have them on hand.

The bike just has a better feel to me at 34psi. I've experimented over the years with 36, 38, and 40 but she seems to like 34 best in my hands.
 
I have an old pair of Levi jeans that wore out, where can I find the production date on the next pair I buy ??
 
A highly debatable topic.
Several UTube video's show 7-8 year old tires as being fine. As long as a tire remains the same "constant' room (65-78 temps.) it is said to be fine. Even a few Tire Mfg.'s say so.

I thought Spec. was 42 PSI?
 
I put almost 5000 miles on a 16 year old tire back in the day. The speedometer only went up to 85MPH so I'm not sure how fast I went on it. Maybe they made better tires in the old days. :rofl1: That was back before the turn of the century.
