Even in Cedar City, we have motorcycle idiots!

What was the LEO riding when he caught up to you on the trail?
That's a funny story.
Kids.
We were so dumb.
I dont remember for sure. I,m going back nearly 50 years. It was when dirt bikes were transitioning from mostly 2-strokes to some 4-strokes. I'm sure it was a 4-stroke and semi sure it was a Suzuki. I was on a Suzuki RM250

What's impressive is they tracked the guy to his house via the recorded license plate and registration. And he wasn't smart enough to get away with it. "I was cold" is all he could come up with. Yeah, they're out there ppl.

Similar funny story... My buddy and I were riding the trails north of town one day when a cop on a bike started chasing us and we could not shake this guy. I was riding on the ragged edge over a rough section of narrow trail and this guy calmly rode up beside me, riding one-handed while yelling and pointing to pull over…. the guy was a former Canadian national motocross champion and was now a local cop... LOL. .

In the theatrical movie “CHiPs” from eight or nine years ago, starring Dax Shepherd and Michael Peña, the Dax Shepherd character, John is a former motorcycle racer and hooligan who gets into the State Highway patrol motorcycle division. Here’s a video of him at the police motorcycle trading Academy running a cones course.
And that’s BEFORE he convinces his commanding officer to let him in his partner switch from those BMW sport touring bikes to a couple of Ducati SuperMotards.

There are stupid people everywhere. This guy was clocked at 308 kph (about 192 mph) on a local 100 kph limit highway.

"The accused 18 year old from Etobicoke, Ont., is a G2 driver, according to provincial police, meaning he needs to pass a road test before earning his full G license. Still, Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said he gave the officer who caught him speeding the impression he felt confident behind the wheel of his parents' Mercedes C 63 AMG".

His license was suspended for seven days and the car impounded for the same period of time. Fine will be a minimum of $2,000, maximum of $10,000 when he hits court.

I never tried to find out what the top speed was on my ST 1300. I ran it up to about 110 one time but backed off within seconds.
It got from 60 to 110 really quickly!!

In contrast, my 2006 Shadow Spirit 1100 doesn’t do well over 85 mph.

I twisted the throttle all the way about a month ago, held it there for maybe 30 seconds, and it took just about that long for the needle to finally stabilize at the top end speed of 97 MPH —indicated— which is probably just 90 in real speed.
This about sums it up for the ST1300. The speedometer was demonstrated to 7% optimistic.IMG_0022.JPG

Yep, that's why I like my ZUMO XT2, mounted where I can see the map and MPH.

Mounted on my tankbag.

And no, it does not block my view of the instruments.

It seems in the last few years, reports of these stunt drivers have really increased and it SEEMS to mostly be young, G2 drivers.

The Zumo on that ST was mounted on a Ram ball between the handlebars giving roughly the same view as your XT2.

That and video games. I think the kids are raised on these racing sim games and they cant wait to try the real thing.

And don't have a clue about the consequences, of being stupid!

Yep, the lack of self preservation instinct and ignorance about road and traffic awareness baffles me too...

I too like to "punch it" at times... with common sense and proportion, where sufficient space and clearance are given...

But besides receiving actual parenting while growing up, we started driving (& riding) in vehicles with 70ies technology...
cars had 55~75HP, no power steering, only marginal noise deadening, you literally felt and heard doing 60kph/40mph, anything over 130kph/80mph got 'adventurous'... ;)

These days?
vault like silence, traction control, auto diff-lock, zero torque-steer and any stupid compact has >200hp at the push of a pedal...
Just last week a Talahon smacked an AMG G-Wagon (2.6 tons, 600HP, 0~60 in 4.4 seconds...) into 3 parked cars, clocked at aprox 120kph... all totaled... the scene looked like a war zone...

Motorcycles not much different... >200HP at the twist of a wrist... avail for everyone, straight out the showroom, no questions asked...

And don't have a clue about the consequences, of being stupid!
What is that old cliche? Goes something like " good judgement comes from experiece. Experience comes from poor judgement".
I think most of us can look back at our younger days and just shake our heads, wondering how we made it through those times when we were 10 ft tall and bullet proof.
