Sorry, I started to read the post...was enthusiast, but at the end I'm not sure!
So, my qst is : Is FCE reliable and does it works great ?

It seems to work well on most bikes, but not all. I have a 2006 that the FCE made no change in the cut-off characteristic. I image there are different versions of the computers on the bikes, and it's hit or miss on the outcome.

Same here. Didn't do anything for my 06 either.
 
On my 2006 the first series of the FCE seemed to work, but I had to restart the engine/motormanagement every now and then. I then could swap this one for the newer type with a fix for this known problem. The new one didn't work, so I swapped it for number 3 but again no change in cut-off characteristic. I even experimented with a switch so I could easily switch between standard circuit and the FCE but nothing... Since then I've given up and learned to live with the on/off problem. I wouldn't recommend it, or at least make sure you can return it if it's not working on your bike.

Another mixed review on that too. Some guys say it makes a big difference. I didn't feel much, if anything. The best thing you can do is bump up the idle a bit and take almost all the cable free-play out of the throttle.
 
I installed G1 in my '06 and it made a noticeable improvement. But then I noticed issues when restarting the bike on hot days. I returned G1 for a replacement and G2 has been working flawlessly. And those few days I went without an FCE installed were agony. Well worth it IMHO. <K>
 
All right, no electronic reliable gimmick, which should the best way, if problem's caused by a lack of fuel ?
It's true it's a bad thing, this bike is so smoothness in the other situation.

A) It doesn't solve the problem but reduces it greatly and B) not everybody agrees on it's effectiveness. I found it very effective it putting some granularity between On and Off.

With time and practice you can learn to meter the low end of the throttle with the same result and save some money. I chose to mod the bike to make it work more the way I wanted instead of making me work the way it wanted.

I bought a FCE unit from an ST owner who lost his bike in an accident. He didn't keep the Ivan's install instructions. Does anyone have a copy of these instructions, or can tell me where to find them.

Let me know how you make out. I was in talks with him about it and then it popped up sold. Interested to see how it performs for you.
 
I've been aware of Ivan's Fuel Cut Eliminator for more than a couple of years but have been louth to cut into my ECU wiring and I've ridden around the issue.

Having just got back from 5 days in the Highlands (of Scotland) I've had a re-think. Bend after bend giving no time to trim the throttle incrementally meant that the 'kerthunk' made the Pan less than what it should be so I bit the bullet. I also think the device has evolved from the early days and hopefully the issues some have had have been resolved.

Fitting took a couple of hours including top box rack removal. I took my time with the crimps and they went well. It took me 25 minutes to work out that the ABS unit didn't go where I thought it should :(

Once I sorted that out it was easy and the bike started to a huge sigh of relief.

I've been out for a spin and the bike is transformed. As some have said, like an electric motor. I'm over the moon.

Next week I'm travelling nearly 300 miles each way to get my forks and shock resprung with new oil and a full set up with a company that specialise in the Pan European ST1300. The bike gets better and better.
 
I've just removed my FCE, as my GIPro gear indicator stopped working when I installed it, and a subsequent installation of an MC Cruise wouldn't work with the clutch wired connected. The clutch switch was tested ok, and then swapped out with a known working switch, but the problem was still there. As the first problem only occurred when I installed the FCE, I thought I'd remove it to see if it fixed the GIPro problem, and it did. Gear indicator worked immediately. I then plugged in my MC Cruise clutch wire, and the MCCruise is now working as it should. It did work fine without the clutch switch connected, but it wouldn't work at all connected to the clutch switch with the FCE installed.

Overall, I'm happy that the problems with the clutch switch have been sorted, and I'd have to say that removing the FCE hasn't had a negative effect on the throttle response at all. The FCE I have was installed on an 03 model I had but wrote off. I bought the wreck, as it was only superficial damage, and the engine ran fine. On the 03 bike, the FCE had a positive effect, but only marginal at best, and fuel consumption increased on it as well. The 08 model wasn't as snatchy as the 03, but I thought I may as well install the FCE in it anyway, and doing so, the improvement was only slight, if at all.

My FCE is now a paperweight to me, and not a good one. IT didn't really work well for either of my ST's, but I'm sure, as has been shown in this thread, that it may work for another ST out there.

Mundo, I spent last evening reading all 688 posts on the FCE topic. You seem to have been the most recent to jump on board with one, and yet have had time to evaluate your installation. I suspect you have the latest version ?? So how has it worked out ?? Conceptually,,, it seems like something I should be trying on my '04. Thx,, Cat'
 
I've sold my ST now having needed a lighter bike and a new R1200RS BMW is now gracing my garage. But I had a chance to cover several thousand miles with the FCE fitted, including a tour of the Highlands and Northern Europe. The fuel cut issue was 80% improved and the bike was made much more pleasant to ride both solo and 2 up. There was a slight anomaly where sometimes, at a steady small throttle the bike would accelerate almost imperceptibly. Nothing more than an interesting phenomina but there all the same.
There seem to be two issues possible with the ST1300, fuel cut and a stutter during the closed loop steady state phase. The FCE won't help the latter but O2 sensor eliminator will by all accounts.
The Pan is a great bike but age, being quite a lightweight and having a dodgy shoulder was all working against me. All the best with it.
