Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

I have the G2 and Delkevics. I put the oem FPR back on per Ivan's suggestion.

All I can say is it's smoother than it was before and noticeably so..

Joe,
Did you leave the G2 on??? I have the " full monte" (TT FPR, g2,K&N and Stanitunes). The only time I'm gonna rip out the TT FPR is if I get in there again, like to put in a cruise control...

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

Thanks guys guess I'll be taking the plunge (and leaving fpr TT61 as is). Funny I never paid much attention to the abrupt throttle til I started reading about it. Did the fpr, then the G2 an thought wow this is great then read more about the fce and the remaining rough spot is really starting to bug me. Other day I went back and forth from throttle off to just starting to engage and off again several times and really got it rocking, I look forward to losing that.

Yes, I just took the FPR off.

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

No, the G2 throttle tube. Did you leave that on???

mitch

Yes, I didn't see how that would matter.. in fact, I gave my OEM one away so I couldn't change it out anyway.

I got my package today, found the original FPR. I never expected to have to remove TT's tail rack, I look at that tonight.

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

I installed the 59# FPR and K&N filter last year. I installed Ivan's FCE last weekend. I put about 200 miles on. It made a noticeable improvement in throttle response. Yesterday I put the stock FPR and air filter back on per Ivan's recommendations. It made a further noticeable improvement. Throttle response is even smoother.

The FCE is a much better solution than the FPR. If you install the FCE, go back to the stock FPR and filter, it is work the work.

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

I removed my G-2 throttle sleeve so I could use my Vista-Cruise Lock. With Ivans FCE the stock sleeve works fine, so I'm leaving the G-2 off.

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

I don't notice the off throttle response so much around home, and I've sort of adapted to it. Riding in the mountain last week, where it's a lot twistier than Kansas, I noticed it a bit more. I ordered an FCE today; seems worth a try.

I ordered an FCE today too. I agree, seems worth a try.

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

I have run into an interesting problem since installing the FCE. At first all was fine the abruptness all gone for around 150 miles. Stopped and filled up with Chevron gas. After about half a mile rinning in the steady 3000-3500 rpm range (trying to stay in the speed limit) the engine seemed to drop a cylinder and trying to accelerate it hessitated then caught. Thinking I got some bad gas I put in a can of Seafoam. Still the same over the next 40 miles to home. The next week riding to work all seemed fine; however around town no steady speeds. The next weekend all seem fine until we filled up with Chevron again, different station about 10 miles from the 1st) and the same results.

Called Ivan and spoke to him and he wanted me to change the spark plugs as I had over 18,000 miles on them and of course inspect the old plugs. I did that and again stopping and filling up got the same results. Checked the venting on the tank and that was ok. Replace the 5 way vacuum tee for the map sensor and that also ok.

Next weekend I'll unplug the FCE and thry that to see if there is a problem there.

Any Thoughts ??????

Thanks,
Sonny

Finally got my problem found and fixed. It was not related to the FCE but vacuum hoses. Three vacuum hoses had come off; don't really know how unless the motor backfired during this or I guess I might have been able to disconnect them without knowing. Anyway back on the road again.

A word to the wise is: check your vacuum hoses if your engine starts to run ragged and no code is set. Might not be electrical.

Amazing you didn't get a MAP sensor error!

Sonny, were these hoses visible? or did you have to troubleshoot?? What kind of clamp held the hoses, I can't remember.. Thoes heavy wire thingies??

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

I installed an fce to my ST1300 about a month ago and there seemed to be no change at all to the on off throttle issue,The bike was just hard work to ride at slow speeds, fuel consumption improved by about one an a half mpg,The idle speed would constantly fluctuate between 850 and 1100 rpm.
I was ready to take the thing off until I took the air filter out this weekend gave it a clean out.
And now she runs sweet:bow1:, Fuel consumption has improved, Idle speed is constant, And the throttle response is so smooth I can't keep off the bike. Now the wife is moaning and says shes an ST widow
This is one mod you need to do

Re: Fuel Cut Eliminator for ST - On-Off Throttle Issue Resolved

I installed the fuel cut eliminator this week on my stock '07.

Installation was straight forward. The instructions that come with it are very detailed. I crimped and soldered the connections. If I was to do it again I would probably eliminate the crimp connections and just solder the wires.

My observations:
Slow speed on/off throttle response is MUCH better but not completely eliminated. It is still a great improvement over stock. When riding at slow speeds and when shifting, the throttle no longer feels like a light switch.

When I did my road test the outside temperature was 32c (89F) and my impression was that the engine heat on my right leg was much less than normal. I'll need to do more riding to verify this. YMMV

The biggest improvement however is the elimination of the flat spot I had noticed when cruising between 3,500 and 4,000 rpm. Before installing the FCE the bike would feel like it lacked power if I rolled the throttle on at 3,500 rpm until I passed 4,000 rpm point. With the FCE installed the flat spot is completely gone and the power feels consistent throughout the rpm range. In my opinion this improvement alone makes this farkle worth every penny.

As I put more miles on the bike with the FCE installed I'll update my observations if anything changes however at this point I'd say we have a winner!! :D

Sorry I didn't answer sooner. I was in the hospital with penumonia. One hose wasn't easy to see the other two were more visable. No clamps all push on.
