I never got more than 30k miles from any chain, and that was stretching it.
Yeah, I said it.
Even with a well-adjusted ScottOiler.
But I like big-hp bikes, like the KTM 950 and the Blackbird and the CBR600.
Probably pushed the BMW f650gs the longest on a single chain. The sprockets looked like saw blades off of a circular saw.
Honda elected to use a 520 chain on the NC platform as did BMW on the F650. A 525 or 530 would last longer with the trade offs of weight and cost.

Is it true that the FJR has a higher peg to seat distance; I read that it's some odd 16 and change on the FJR whereas on the ST, it's longer, don't know anything about the BMW but that becomes a big deal as we gracefully age. Myself if I ever bought another bike, which I won't it would certainly be the FJR as these bikes are getting very reasonable if only to try one on.
When I did a side by side comparison between the ST and the FJR, there didn't seem to be much difference.

Based on what information? I replaced my BMW R1200RT drive shaft out of caution at 120,488 miles. Replaced with rebuilt shaft for $320. Chain on the NC700X now at 21,948 and will need replacement soon as a few kinks showing up. Chain kit w/ sprockets currently about $150. I usually get 15-18,000 miles out of a chain and drive sprocket but this one doing better. Likely the NC will take 5 chains to one BMW shaft. How's that math work out?
Was said in jest based on last service bulletin. Sorry if I ruffled feathers.

fwiw I regularly seem to get 25-30,000 out of a chain and only replace them after 30 out of caution.

Where do you find a chain and sprocket set for $150?

Stock chain lists for $220.25 front sprocket $61.54 and rear sprocket $ $62.72 that adds up to $344.31 plus installation labor for me (since I'm not the mechanical type) of probably $125 so approx $469.31 total

The first chain on my CB (a 530) lasted 37,000 miles and I have over that on it's replacement

The first chain on my NC (a 520) lasted 23,000 miles and I have 18,400 on it's replacement, but I have a feeling it will be done before 23K.

DID X3 112 link 520 is about $95 on Amazon, JT 1373 drive sprocket is about $18 from Partszilla and others and the rear doesn't need replacement this time but Sprocket City does have all three in a kit for $137. I have had good experience with this DID chain and JT drive sprockets so I've stuck with them and replacing both chain and drive sprocket at the same time. Only the first time did I use OEM parts.

I do save a lot of money by doing my own work. I couldn't own motorcycles and rack up the miles if I was paying for services on them.

It followed me home, actually I rode it home from Rochester MN. Flyfisher made me an offer I couldn't refuse and being it's a '14 I had to say yes.
Pretty bike, always thought that was the best color they came out with.
