George's Spring Trip 2010

quot by uptoblackwood
Now...I hope they don't get in a hurry. Instead of saving a day....this will cost them two additional days. It's easy to "push" in situations like this. I know....I've done it and paid a price. It *usually* never works out well when you hurry.

I've ridden some with George, and while he may be goofy enough to put his ST on a rowboat and cross, he's not a "push" rider. Very, very good technical rider, but understands the consequences of 'push' better than most really good riders I know. Many of them have the "I can make it" mentality, George looks out for tomorrow.

I'm glad he's there if the desire to make up time rears it's head:).

Tom....I know you're right. :) Looks like they've stopped for the day and are probably having a beverage of choice and lunch/dinner on the beach of the island they seems to have landed on.

That island looks like high rent neighborhood with what appears to be controlled access, any ideals Forest with what it (the island) is all about? Resort development or similar

Their is this, now more confused

We are hold up on the isle of Flores...right back to the restaurant we had lunch at two days ago. I didn't even get to order since I jumped into the clear deep water of Lago Peten itza.
It have new life even as I came dripping wet back to the lunch table.
After the dead end, we need to do laundry, to say the least.
When I saw the Scorpion just under me before dawn, I knew he saying is true...it is darkest before the dawn.

The reason we looked like we were going fast on the dirt road is because we were doing and average of twenty five MPH. Steve was leading most of the time there and apparently operating under some degree of motivation to get on pavement. Actually, that bad road was like running the Paris to Dakar race compared to the debris field we dropped the bikes on so many times.
I felt like it was a soothing massage with its potholes and hard rocks protruding from firm clay.
Pics on the way though we never did get the one of me kissing the pavement.
George has WiFi so stay tuned.

Oh BTW ...YES IT IS a very cool place and by comparison to the rest of what we saw, it should be high rent.
We are payin about 6$ per night in a safe and very cool place.
Kids of all shapes and sizes and languages are wandering around and lounging at the dock that everyone dives from.
I am trying to get a consensus on staying two nights.
Forget "push" we don't need George to moderate that. I could live here.
BTW, Steves bike started backfireing again during the race outa El Bethel.
We suspect the Tb's came away again from the rockin and Rollin.

We're all now officially jealous again. We haven't been for the last 24 hours or so. :D

Tell Steve to push down on the airbox and tighten the clamps down. I just had the airbox off on my Wee yesterday and getting to the front screw is a beeatch. You'll need at least a 12 inch long #2 phillips screwdriver, and a mirror to see the screw to get the screwdriver onto it, if you don't want to remove all the plastic. It'll be easier if he removes the tank, however he may be able to lift the tank without taking it off, enough to push down on the airbox. You'll probably need to take off the screws on the right side of the cowling to get the screwdriver in there.

Good luck, getting that front one tight is difficult!.

"The adventure doesn't begin until the pavement ends!" I think Danny and Steve found their dirt legs today after yesterday's disaster.

The boat (launch'a) ride was cancelled due to "No Way, Jose!!" quite literally. It could be done but not with MY bike! I think I'll come back in a year or so with a DRZ400. (Dan, is yur brother's drz for sale yet? :D)

I'm in a wi-fi cafe', Q10 (about $1.50)/hr. Good speed, just added three more albums at picasaweb.google.com/cattmando

Some captioning and a little story telling. Hope ya all enjoy.

I'm tired.

Thanks for the great pictures and captions. Glad the three amigos are in good shape and spirit.
Happy Trails and roads.

I'm enjoyin' George...get some rest.
You guys look like great American ambassadors/adventurers everywhere you've been.

What a trip George! Can't wait to hear about it in person at CreSTOC. You are going to be back in time, right? :)

Those drinks with the umbrellas....are hard to resist. Also....cool, clear water and good eats! The hot, dusty road will come soon enough....
