Getting home when your bike breaks down - and you're 1,800 miles away!!!

On a lark I called the UHaul number even though they were closed and a nice lady answered.
They have no trouble with a one-way to the States but the lady has to check to see if it is still available.
Prayers will be greatly appreciated for this to sort out!
You got it Phil. Had it happen to me on a car. Broken down on a weekend holiday weekend. Had to leave car for a week while my brother drove 200 miles to pick me up. I know it's not the same but it did work out. And it'll work out for you too. Take care Phil and remember we are only a few clicks away.

How much mileage on the engine when it quit (EDIT- OK, I see SweetTreat is the 02 with 130K+ miles but that might be an older number on your posts)? I agree, it’s an emotional attachment that a lot of us have with these bikes and it’s nice to have a spare engine (or in your case, 2 of them) to swap in. I hope that goes smoothly once it’s home (but you can take your time as you have the other 3 to ride).

GREAT NEWS- I have a UHaul 10ft truck reserved to take all the way back to Nashville!
I pick it up tomorrow morning so hopefully I will be on my way after I get it and get SweetTreat loaded.
And Kerbside(Andy) stopped by to check on me on his way to the ferry.
We had a wonderful lunch (his treat) and a great time spent together.

Excellent news! Hopefully everything here on out goes smoothly! :pray1:

Jeez, Phil, push it in a ditch and fly home. You have more. ;)
No way Hosea! "Hos'eh" ! (I forgot I was in Canada)
Reality is it probably would cost me as much to get to an airport (long way to an international flight) and buy a one way ticket as the rental.
This gets me and the ST back to the Holler and I don't leave one of my ladies behind - it's a Marine Corp thing!
I'm just glad this didn't happen while I was in Newfoundland - that would have been a real problem.

(You know II was just pulling your leg. :) )

How does "blowing the water pump" take out the timing belt? In the 1300, the water pump is, I think, chain driven. If it is the same on an 1100, did the chain break and get caught in the timing belt?

On the ST1100 it's all driven by one belt.
Either the water pump went south or the tensioner went south.
Judging by the major loss of antifreeze, my money's on the water pump.
Tension goes off the belt, the belt slips, the bike gets out of time and the valves come a crashing down.
