Getting home when your bike breaks down - and you're 1,800 miles away!!!

Sorry about your bad luck Phil. Glad it wasn't worse - and that you got it sorted pretty quickly.
I seem to remember George stranded in North Bay, Ontario a few years ago with a unobtanium tire issue for so long the locals darn near elected him to town council. ;)

No way Hosea!

Oh, and while in Canada its "Hos'eh"

^^ ST1100s are pretty indestructible- this is a VERY unusual occurrence. Glad for UP he now has a way to get himself and the bike home. Replacing an engine hopefully won’t be too difficult, but as I said, with 3 other rideable bikes, you can really take your time and get it running as new again. Please take some pics of the faulty part as I’m sure we’re all interested in exactly what went south (and I do get it if you want to just pull the engine and replace it ASAP).

Towing company has said they will use their flat bed to get it loaded for me - they have been great!
Tri County Towing!

Two Uhauls in this area - we'll see what we come up with Monday.
This is not a matter of 'what is the bike worth' because financially it's not worth anything right now.
Bikes are not financial investments but mental and emotional investments.
So SweetTreat is worth a small fortune to me for the memories of places we've been and seen - and the places we will go later!

Your baby just needs a heart transplant, and she'll be good to go.

Well, in 435,000+ miles this is the first time I've had to truck one home - pretty indestructible to me!
Well. Its all in the adventure . Nothing you cant over come or handle UP. I guess you were the bug on the windshield forthis one!

Bummer a long awaited and much planned for trip is interrupted by a rare mechanical issue that trashes an engine.

Google tells me you're about 2,900 km from home, I hope you're planning a minimum of 2 days for the drive.

Safe trip home and just catching up on the happenings. Need an extra hand and I can swing it with work, give a holler!

Is it an option to take off the windscreen and load it? 1/2" sounds kinda close if you're still considering a van rescue. I tried to get a mechanic friend to come and help who lives in Canning ( about 2 hours from you) but of course he's on holidays in B.C.

So Phil . . . this thread could use a picture or two . . . once you get some cell coverage! A shot of you, the van, the bike in the van and a quote " None Left Behind?"

Safe return!

Shuey

PS: "No officer, I have nothing to declare."

My worst nightmare. I'm not nearly as cool, calm and collected as UP. My next ride would be in an ambulance from the heart attack I just had because my blood pressure went through the roof.

Glad it's not turning out as bad as I imagined it would have been.

WOW!! I can't believe that good ole Southern gal let you down like that! I'd say let me know if you need any parts but you're the only guy I know that has more parts than I do laying around. Good luck getting home and figuring out what to do.
