Mellow's August MNSTOC Trip

Nice. Have thought of riding through Roswell and down through Las Cruces by bike and camping along the way. Always wondered, though, about what it's like to deal with setting up a tent on the shale ground surface. What special issues for that?

This is one of those things that makes me want to stick with my camper but have been thinking that if I can figure out how to deal with this type of ground with a tent I would like to try that instead. Not really wanting to pull a trailer or camper with my current bike... at least I can't yet since there is no hitch made for it and it will be a while before I can get around to making my own.

A simple tarp under the tent would be fine.

Joe, very nice!

When I worked at JPL in Pasadena (1988 -93), I was in the Deep Space Network (DSN) group. Although I was on a Weather Satellite, most of the group worked with large antennas like those.

Nice.
I haven't ridden the route you rode through NM. I have put it on my list, thanks.

Excellent job!

You are about 2 1/2 weeks ahead of us...(okay, maybe a little more than that...) We'll be going thru Moab on the 2nd of next month and hitting Monument Valley a couple of days later, coming down from the north.

You are taking all that :rain1: home with you...right?

Don't worry, the worst rain and traffic was the last 17 miles home... lots of flooding and cars hitting puddles and, yup, I'm in the path.. LOL
