hi,have a corman seat now, little hard on the but after awhile, what seat seems to be the most comfortable seat people are using?thanks

Re: seats

Buy a Russell Day Long. Spend the money and cry one time. Or, spend money trying everything else and cry every time.

How much riding you gonna do? My stock seat is good for about 30 minutes. A Corbin is good for an hour. A Saddlemen is good for 5-6 hours. The Russell is good until I get there or run out of gas money.

Re: seats

Sargent made the difference for me. Just a little taller than what I had hoped for, but way more comfortable.

Re: seats

I have a Russell DL and its a big improvement over the stock saddle. However, unlike most folks, I still have some comfort issues....especially in hot weather. So, while it helps immensely, it has not made me completely forget the seat and under certain conditions I'm still squirming.

I suspect that a part of getting comfortable on a long ride is simply conditioning my posterior to shut up and get used to riding for hours.

That's part of it but it really boils down to proper undergarments (I use bicycle shorts, others LD shorts) it's all about breathable comfort equalling less heat and less squirming. I'm very happy with my Sargent and I like the look better than the Russell. I know, ya don't see the seat when you're sitting on it but I prefer the Sargent. Cheers

Re: seats

Buy a Russe day long and you will love the road again, best seat made.
A sergeant or a corbin seat about $530.00 with delivery and a russel custom made to my weight $ 625.00 with delivery.

I had a Sargent used it for my BBG it nearly crippled me I was in a lot of pain got a Russell and now I don't even think about comfort on the bike just get on and ride.

For the most part I think you'll hear Russel is the way to go.
You might lose a little reach if you are on the edge with flat footing the bike.
Corbin close model is a lot worse than oem imop. (that's on the 1300, folks have had some luck with them on the 1100 and I think the single seat corbin for the 13). The two up seat is awful.
Spence mod to the oem is the cheapest and effective upgrade.

I put 70,000 miles on a Sargeant. I'd give it an 8 out if 10...

Picking up a new ST in a few weeks that has a Russell on it so I'll be able to compare.

Asking what is the most comfortable seat is like asking what is the most beautiful woman. What works for me may not work for you. Look in these seat threads and you will find every aftermarket seat has it's fans and in the classifieds you will find examples of all of them for sale because they weren't the silver bullet for butt pain.

That said, I have found the Sargent to work well for me on my ST1300. It is a harder seat than some others and closer to a Corbin for instance than it is to a Russell. I also got on real well with a Corbin on my departed BMW.

I personally think a lot of seat complaints are due to trying to go from riding short distances or infrequent rides to taking long rides without working up to them.

I have a Corbin heated front and while I agree that at first use it appears to be hard (as a plank) I find that now I never even think about the seat as I ride.

I liked the hard Corbin right up to the point I used the nice pan to have my Russel built. The Corbin either works for you or it doesn't. You will not have sore spots from it being too soft tho.:)

A used Russell may or may not work. They are custom built to the buyer. The closer you are in height/weight/inseam to the original owner the better chance of it working out as a good deal.

A Corbin is good for an hour.

That's nonsense. I've only had Corbins on my bikes, so I can't comment on the others (and won't). I'm sure they are all fine seats, but unless you've owned them all, there's really no sense throwing opinions out there. My only con with a Corbin is they sit lower, and I'm a taller guy, so I lose some real estate between the seat and the footpegs.

Do you know the details of the person this seat was built for? Please let me know if you decide to sell it and the details of the original build specs.

Get the daylong! Nothing butt lots of great painless miles afterwards! They have a basket weave pattern vinyl that lets a little air under you...really like it on my new seat!
