That is cool. I've often wondered what kept the valve stems, rocker pivots, pushrod sockets, valve guides, etc. lubricated on open engines like that?

Easy to adjust the valves. I'd worry about oil splash if the valve train is lubed.

Many OHV engines of the pre to post WWI period had exposed valves. They were lubed liberally prior to start up and frequently afterward....hopefully before the lube was consumed and a valve failed.
