Progressive Motorcycle Insurance

Does it mean they won't drop you for two claims within 36 months?
 ...could be. When I was doing insurance quotes last night, I realized that my accident was in June 2024. Oops...that's 22 months ago.

There's always (or almost always) insurance you can get. My FIL used to also sell high-risk insurance. You paid a fortune for it, but you were insured.

We were bundled with State Farm for over 30 years. Homeowners, 2 cars, and 3 motorcycles. A few claims over the years on all 3 with only two crashes(1 car & 1 MC). Just got dropped last November from all 3 policies with a call from the agent that they expired 2 days previous and will not renewed. We scrambled for coverage and were taken in by Progressive over the phone.
We used to complain that we were treated as a number. Well, you are...especially by the insurance companies. When you had an agent that actually did more than fill out paperwork, you could build that reputation that paid off when you needed someone to help you get a better deal. Now, you're a number. Period.

So if you feel like the insurance company has no loyalty for you...why should you have any for it?

Quick update. Just got off the phone with Farmers, Inc. They were @$500 over the cost of Progressive (Flo). Dairyland was @$200 less.

If you're old enough, you'll remember this quote. "It pays to let your fingers do the walking." ;)

(Note: If it seems like I have nothing better to do than sit at the computer, I don't. I'm supposed to sit with my foot elevated and iced after the foot surgery on Friday. So you'll have to put up with me till I can ride again. :D )

Right now, TN Farm Bureau looks like the winner hands down over Dairyland.
They don't have some of the minor coverages but they do have the main ones cheaper - maybe because I have my house and autos with them.
Waiting for a few more answers from them to verify that I am understanding the quote correctly.
If all goes well I will be 'kissing' Flo and her pack of thieving hoodlums goodbye! ;)

I wouldn't count on it!
I was a 'Platinum' Member - high ranking on their scale of 'those who pay in and do not have claims'.
I guess they moved me down to the 'Fool's Gold' level just before they kicked me off the bus.... ;)

The problem was there was no police report (I looked) because it happened on private property though they were called.
The local cops got me out of way quickly because I was from out of town so it would have probably not went in my favor.
When your own insurance company won't support you, pretty much a lost cause.
I had no damage on my ST1100 (just a mirror cover knocked off by the SUV) but the occupants of the SUV got a nice payout from Progressive for 'bodily harm' - as if my ST1100 really shook up a 6,000 lb SUV - and an outrageous repair bill probably faked from a friend.
Fraud - pure and simple and Progressive rolled over instead of telling them to take a hike!
Always get a copy of the report any if you can't get one at the moment and take pictures.

Great advice if possible - but since they didn't file one there ain't one.
And pictures would not have stopped Progressive from rolling over.
There was a very small ding in the front right fender above the wheel well.

My daughter is an underwriter for a large insurance company that operates nationally.

You were a great client until you weren't. Never 2 without 3, or more in their minds. You've been fired.

Overall, these companies are driven by data and you're just a number in the database. You got flagged, and in spite on decades of premiums paid without a claim you're tagged as being higher risk because you've had 2 incidents. Better to cut you loose now vs. risking a 3rd claim.

So long ago... pretty sure that was how I bought Dairyland from the Suzuki dealer, that same year.
Because I couldn't afford the Honda CB-750/4. It was 20% more money for a struggling high school kid.
1973 Suzuki GT-550, looks just like mine but not mine. I added a nice white Windjammer III fairing to the one I had... Birmingham to Orlando, Orlando to New London CT, New London to Norfolk VA, etc., etc.
So long ago...

Memories!
My younger brother-in-law rode his CB160 Honda from Lafayette, Louisiana to our house in West Palm Beach, FL in 1982. Made it all the way with no issues but would not start back up one morning. Don't remember where it ended up.

A few years ago I had a garage fire that completely destroyed the garage and caused surface damage to the house. In the garage I had an FJR. Everything I had was insured through Progressive. The whole process was surprisingly easy as far as the insurance was concerned. They gave us a figure for the bike, which was not included with the homeowners side of things, that was less than it should have been so Mrs. Spare rebutted negatively and we were given a fair value.

But, my agent sold to another agent who cannot seem to handle anything without moment by moment direction from us and Progressive is regularly scrutinizing (and raising premiums) everything attached to me. So after post-claim purgatory we will move on. A good agent is key.

There is always one, but a ticket does not have to be issued. So did you give them your insurance info and did you get theirs? Why did you not immediately file a claim with their insurance? There could be unseen damage. Now there are conflicting stories. Once you exchange insurance info always file a claim nothing may become of it but you protect yourself.

Progressive is reasonable for my car and I have bundled the bike with them, more for convenience than price.

Looks like this bundling may not be the best idea though, if a claim on one vehicle can cause cancelling on all! May have to rethink that one.

Thanks for all of your input - obviously you were there and saw everything!
Next time please make your presence known so I can let you solve all my problems on the spot!;)
If there was a police report they did not make it available to the public or the insurance company.
And I did not give 'them' my insurance information - evidently the cop did because he was the only one who had it.
And he sure didn't share their information with me.
It's called 'the home town advantage' my friend and that's how it often works in small towns.

"this insures that each party is financially responsible for it's own mistakes..." we're so far removed from mutual indemnification let alone personal accountability
Insurance [at least in the private sector] is simply a bet; the house has the advantage going in [in] the form of information asymmetry
You'd be hard pressed to leave a card game without letting your compadres a chance to win the money back, but hey look... isn't that that the ___ Skyscraper...
[edit] Having switched provinces and gone from private to government run this would have been another one I did not see coming the idea that you could
just be dropped altogether.

As I suspected, Progressive denied my request for a review of the non-renewal.
So after 30 years of premium payments (with no claims), Flo and her money grubbing bandits are kicking this 'Platinum' level customer (their designation) to the curb because I had two claims - neither of which were my fault - a deer strike and the other one they purposefully rolled over and paid out.
So please beware if you have them as your insurer, it appears the policy is only good for two claims - they hedge on the time frame. ;)
TN Farm Bureau (I have my house and auto with them) has rolled the motorcycles into the auto policy very reasonably so I'm fine for coverage.
They do not offer safety gear or contents extensions but then Progressive did not have much either (gear was $500 and contents was $0).
I did look into Dairyland and it looked like it would also be a good alternative and there are folks on here who have used them and are satisfied.
As always, BUYER BEWARE!

Glad you got it all sorted out and found reasonable coverage. Just out of curiosity do you put full coverage on all your ST11s
