ReBuilding Damaged 07 ST1300

sully2028

Hi all. Being new to the Honda ST1300, I just bought a salvage bike (see photos - a 2007 ST1300) which I want to restore for the road. I have two BMW K1200LTs and have be able to keep them mechanically strong for a number of years now.

Here are my questions:

- What service manuals are available? I know about the Honda Service Manual ($60) - is it a good one? I have the Honda Owners Manual and Honda Parts Manual. It seems that Clymer (which has an excellent manual for the BMW K1200LT) only covers the ST1100 - is there one available for the ST1300.

- Is there a Honda ST Maintenance Video/DVD?

- What are there sources for parts? I routinely check eBay but are there any other good Honda junkyards (mail order) that you all deal with? What is a good source of new (either OEM or aftermarket) parts?

Any help/guidance you all can give is appreciated.
Thanks again,
Dan Sullivan

Dan, hope ya got a good price, that's gonna be a lot of work.

Check the Vendors thread on this site.

Keep looking at e-bay, there's usually some stuff there. Keep us poSTed.

A lot of work George? How so? I can't see anything more obvious than plastic damage. Hard to tell about the forks and the wheels seem okay.

The Honda Service manual is your #1 best resource, followed shortly by the members on this site.

Give Tim at hondacuraworld.com he'll get you good prices on replacement parts but I agree with George on checking w/ebay you can almost always find mirror and saddlebag covers there.

Forks and or triples are bent....look at the pic from the front....bars are twisted right and the wheel is straight.

Other than that....it does look like it wouldn't take much to make it worthy....

What's you pic her up for? (If you don't mind me asking...)

I'd rec. two places for info and parts:

1) Hondadirectline
2) Hondaacura world

Both are vendors here.

Also, pic up a copy of the Honda Service Manual....it's all you will need.

<D>

I see the forks now.. I've been staring at documents all day so my eyes are playing tricks with me.. LOL

You can't go wrong with the Honda Manual. It can be ordered from the Helm web site. They shipped mine out the next day. I believe that you can get a manual that covers from '03 up to 2008.

Yeah, I'm wondering also why it was a total. Doesn't look that bad. Does replacing every piece of plastic with a scratch total $10k?

If the goose neck ( where the steering head bearings go) is warped/bent/cracked it needs a new frame, THEN it's totaled.

New triple clamps, fork tubes etc. are no big deal.

Labor is what totals bikes, if you can do it all yourself it won't cost much.

I also want to know how much $$$$ for a salvage ST.

Replacing all the colored-plastic and the tank is around 2500-3000... If the structure of the saddlebags and other non-colored plastic was compromised you might have to add another 500-1000+ for other stuff... maybe the windshield and the elec shield components and dash were also damaged.. .not sure..

Hard to tell but wheels aren't cheap ether and we can't see if the radiator was hit also..

The little stuff adds up quick... especially if you want to replace w/new OEM stuff.

Dan quit whoring me out on the internet! For the last time just because you're family doesn't mean you're my pimp too!!

Mellow, Mellow, Mellow.. That wave of rain water engulfing that pretty bright green jacket of yours at Westoc must have done something to ya. Oh wait you're still trying to forget that moment.
Traumatizing I know.. :D

Since a lot of people want to know, here is the eBay listing where I am getting the bike:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...0336765235&sspagename=STRK:MEWNX:IT&viewitem=

Hope u can see it there. Yes I bid $5000, and I actually thought that was low since book is almost twice that. There are several pictures as well. All feedback is welcome. If it was a bad deal, just PM me please.

It`s really no bodys business but yours. If you are happy with the deal that`s all that`s important. I build ST`s, it dosen`t look to bad to me. If you bought the bike to keep and ride I would say you did fine. Feel free to call or send your # If you need help with the fix, advice how to, parts source/repair ect.
Good luck and have fun with your project!

Looks like a deal to me. Best part was they said it tracks straight and true on the highway.

Besides looking like all the plastic needs replaced, I suspect the front bolt on sub frame will also.

I'm still amazed insurance totaled it. I once saw a pick up get a new frame because insurance wouldn't total it. That's like doing a frame up restore.

Let us know how it's coming along.

Don't they total vehicles when the repair exceeds about 50 percent of the value of the vehicle?

If you do all the work yourself and order the parts of the internet or one of vendors here you'll have a great bike for less than you can find elsewhere for the same year. If you haven't done so already, spend the money and order the factory service manual. It will give you directions on rebuilding the whole bike.

Dan, I have the following items that I took off my brand new 2006 ST that I would be willing to sell if you're interested in any of them:

1) Stock driver seat - only ridden about 1500 miles & in perfect condition - replaced it with a custom Corbin for looks

2) Stock pillion seat - perfect condition - never used - put a Corbin Smuggler in its place

3) Stock mufflers - only have 20 miles use on them as I put Two Brothers Racing mufflers on the day after I bought the bike brand new from the dealer

4) Stock windshield - excellent condition (no scratches or damage) - about 4,000 miles on it & I put on a wider & taller Rifle windshield

Make me an offer if you're interested in anything - I have not posted any of them on E-Bay. Shipping would be from Kansas - I have the boxes from the new stuff came in so everything would be packaged good to keep from shipment damage.

Hey everyone.
Wanted to update you all on my rebuild project. It is finished (actually was done on Mar 11th, but took three weeks to get it street legal). Had the NJ State inspection yesterday, and it passed with flying colors. Here is the stuff I did (see note below).

Two pictures are posted below. If u want to see all the photos of the finished product, send me your email and I will link you to Picasa photos.

A lot of folks on this website were very supportive, but one who helped a super amount was Larry Ramel of Missouri. Great technical advice, spent hours on the phone with me, and has done salvage rebuilds about 10-15 times already. Great guy and very knowledgeable.

Now will be doing the fun par, riding the bike. Had it on the highway yesterday at 95mph +/- an it ran straight as an arrow.
Dan
