Hi all

I have a st1100r 1994 48000 miles which i am pretty sure the water pump has failed thanks to advise from John, as i am sure water is coming out off the weep hole,as i have removed carbs and checked everything else.
My question is where do i get one from as they seem to be obsolete in the uk. I have seen various engines selling for around ?150 pounds $200 , but i cant guarantee if pump will be ok as most are high mileage. On the U.K Ebay i can by a new seal and bearing kit for?50.00 $66.00 and can be fitted to pump for ?30 $40.
As i would have to change the cam belt as well while in there plus the carb boots and new radiator pipes gaskets and other bits am i better to sell bike as a none runner or carry on with the repair as this is becoming expensive and not to forget the bike is 22 years old.
I have already done the alternator ,clutch, pads and two new tyres so i am already pounds down.
Hopefully your advise might solve my my quires, but im not Donald Trump so money is tight

regards

Depends on a few things. Is the overall condition of the bike good, great, or indifferent? Any significant corrosion under the plastic? Do you have any sentimental attachment to the bike? Biggie is: Given that you have already done a bunch of maintenance on the bike, do you want to do all that much additional work?
For me, this type of decision is a balancing act of sentimental value, sense of accomplishment, available cash, and market value of the motorcycle.

Hello Oldbike fixer.
The bike is in a fair condition but yes there is some rust on frame but swingarm is ok.The bottom of rad is tatty. The sentimental value is starting to wain slightly and the market value would be around $2000 dollars .
I would like the satisfaction of repairing the old girl but i dont like throwing good money after bad.

Mileage on your bike isn't that great, but age is. If I were in your position, I would inspect the drive splines in the rear end...input shaft coupling and where the rear wheel fits in. Then I would perform a compression check before putting much more effort into the machine. If compression (rings and valves) are within spec and your drive splines are OK, then chances are your post-water pump maintenance will be relatively simple and inexpensive.

First I've heard that the 92-95 water pump is 'obsolete.' Obsolete as in 'out of stock,' not available?

A later model water pump without the oil cooler nipple can be installed on an earlier model ST. The oil cooler is trashed and the Water Pipe and oil filter bolt replaced with the newer versions.

The water pump is still available from Huntington Beach Honda, in Huntington Beach, CA (USA) for $294.49 plus shipping. The Honda part # 19200-MY3-010.

Thanks to all.
I have looked into the replacement parts and have found a person in Scotland who will fit the new seal and impeller.
I now need to pluck up courage and tear my engine down.
