I saw that show that night and she was great. The "I would give about a year's pay to peek under there". When Jay Leno asked "Are those real?" it didn't go so well.
She was very generous about the Barbara Walters' interview. Walters called her a "hillbilly" and denigrated Dolly's choice of professional appearance. Both cheap shots on Walter's part though she probably thought she was asking the "tough questions".
Parton never had a bad word to say about anybody. Not even Burt Reynolds. She showed up on time. Early was on time. She knew her lines. That was not Reynolds. But she defending him even though he behaved like the entitled diva he thought he was.
On the other hand Charles Durning was great and a professional. He was also a stage actor who knew the value of timing and preparedness.
Not to hijack the thread but Dolly and Durning made the movie. Reynold's part could have been done by anyone. And better. Parton was indeed a gem. Durning's song and dance parody worked on so many levels. Durning did a great job on an episode of NCIS as well.
Two great talents lost to the world and family and friends. And to those of us who never had the pleasure of meeting them.
