At the bottom front of each saddle bag there is a piece called Rubber Protector (part number 81214-MT3-300 ). Now, before all smart comments start flooding this post, I didn’t name this part, Honda did!

On BumbleBerry, the right saddle bag Rubber Protector! was gone and the saddle bag hard plastic has rubbed on another part called Muffler Mounting Rubber 50608-KV0-000, again Honda named it! The wear on the saddle bag can be seen in the photo above.

When I noticed this, at first I wanted to cut a piece of bicycle tube and glue it on. But I decided to see if the replacement part actually exists. And I was surprised that it did and after a good laugh, I ordered it. I used a fine chisel to scrape the remaining of the old rubber from the hard plastic. I cleaned the area with damp cloth and alcohol. The new part has adhesive on one side, so just peel it off and stick the rubber protector on the same spot, and apply pressure for about 20 to 30 seconds.

After applying the new part.

The new and installed rubber protector. As can be seen, it touches the other part Muffler Mounting Rubber. I will replace this part sometime this year.

While I was inspecting the saddle bags, I noticed a couple of nuts were loose. So I took all the nuts and bolts off, removed the latches and cleaned them thoroughly. When I put everything back on, I used blue loctite on the inside bolts, so they won’t come apart.

Is it me, or is something wrong there? I do not recall the panniers resting on any part of the mufflers once attached properly.
No, you're right, something is wrong here, looks like the bracket or hanger that the bag slots into might be damaged in some way so the bags are hanging lower that they are supposed to.

Well, the true cause of this problem is wear of the saddlebag stay (84350MT3000 & 84250MT3000) causing the bags to hang lower (and further outward) then normal.
Originally there should be a 10mm gap between the rubber protector and the silencer lug on the footrest plate...

The issue gets noticeable once you feel the panniers banging in your footrests ;)

A permanent solution of course is replacing the worn down hanger rails, including all damping rubbers... (just ordered the whole shebang for my ST, € 250,-... ugh...)
Another option is attaching stripes from adhesive felt floor tiles at the underside of the pannier counterparts, which will reposition them higher again...
If you flip the panniers over you'll find the hanger system being dubbed with a folded steel sheet (riveted in place); those will last forever, but while on the road (especially when riding in the rain) grime, dust and sand accumulates there, working as brutal abrasive on the softer plastic rails...
Also not the "perfect" idea, as the felt might again catch dust and sand, but it's readily avail for small money...
